Job Summary

Reports ToSnowfarming Lead HandPosition OverviewSnowfarmer - General Labourers work as part of the Safety Operations team. They are responsible for setting up and maintaining all Snowfarming fences and apparatus performing trail maintenance aiding with hazard marking transport and pack first aid equipment and performing any general labour as required. They are to report any issues to the Snowfarming Lead Hand or a safety operations supervisor. They must ensure that all daily Snowfarming duties are being completed efficiently and work is documented. The incumbent should expect to be working outside all day every day sometimes in adverse or extreme weather in this position are responsible for providing the following tools: Skis/snowboard ski/snowboard boots appropriate clothing layers for the weather black ski pants as well as other sundry items. This is a full-time seasonal role (October to May) 5 days out of 7 per week. Shifts are 9 hours inclusive of a 1-hour unpaid lunch. The incumbent must be available to work flexible shifts including weekends and holidays. Please note that you may not receive full-time hours at the beginning/end of season and during other slow periods. Alberta Employment Standards regarding probationary periods Duties/ResponsibilitiesBuild setup take down move and maintain snow fences log the sameSki/snowboard to access work sitesWork through extended periods of physically demanding conditionsPerform shoveling and other trail maintenanceEnforce the Alpine Responsibility Code slow riding zones area closuresIdentify and address safety concerns pertaining to staff and guestsAssist in emergency situations including; Lift evacuation avalanche rescue response first aid fire -slope risk management: identify and mitigate hazards on hill (run checks hazard marking)Assist other departments as required or perform any other duties as assigned by your supervisorRespect and adhere to the companys policies and procedures as set in the Corporate Policies Employee Handbook and Safety Operations Training ManualUnderstand and adhere to Ski Marmot Basins Harassment Policy and the companys Privacy PolicyEnsure all work-related activities follow Alberta Occupational Health and Safety legislation as it relates to the any damage to vehicle to the Vehicle Maintenance supervisor. Other duties as assigned by your supervisor(s)QualificationsComplete both safety operations ski skills assessmentsPhysically fit able to preform strenuous manual labourFirst Aid course/training preferredAvalanche Skills Training Level 1 or equivalent CAA accreditation (preferred)Valid Alberta class 5 drivers license or Requirement:Demonstrated strong skiing/snowboarding ability in all mountain and snow conditions in Advanced/Most difficult and Expert/Extreme terrainPhysically fit and able to ski with heavy loads (25 kg). Has proven physical ability to perform all Grade 1 Ski Patroller tasksHas gained familiarity with all section of Marmot Basins Safety Operations Training Manual policies SOPs and first aid algorithms. Build setup take down move and maintain snow fences log the sameWork through extended periods of physically demanding conditionsWork in a safe and efficient manner and complete tasks as assignedPerform shoveling and other trail maintenance properly and in a timely mannerEnforce the Alpine Responsibility Code slow riding zones area closuresIdentify and address safety concerns pertaining to staff and guestsAssist in emergency situations to the level of training including; Lift evacuation avalanche rescue response first aid fire -slope risk management: identify and mitigate hazards on hill (run checks hazard marking)Has been trained to ride with an unloaded rescue toboggan load and unload it from the lifts and repack it. Knows the names and locations of all first aid equipment. Can take it to scene when directed aid in packaging the patient and can repack any piece of first aid equipment. Learn all sweeps in the Eagles Ridge and Caribou Ridge Areas. Become familiar and proficient with Marmot Basin radio protocolBecome familiar with the Avalanche Rescue Plan and your role in it. Become familiar with transceiver and other AvSar tool useReview and sign off on the Safety Operations Hazard Assessment and all training documentsWorkplace hazardous materials training (WHMIS)Report any damages or issues with company vehicles to the Vehicle Maintenance Supervisor Assist other departments as required or perform any other duties as assigned by your supervisorCore CompetenciesProfessional deportment with excellent customer service skills: experience dealing with all on-hill patronsCheerful outgoing personality; demonstrated temperament and disposition for highly stressful situationsSelf-motivated and able to work unsupervised and as part of a team member able to take directionMotivated and observant; able to perceive needed tasks and complete them without directionSelf-aware; able to identify strengths and gaps in own abilities and trainingAble to use taught skills and previous experience to problem solve Good organizational skills & ability to multi-taskRecreational mountain pursuits such as rock climbing and ski touring are considered completed the Marmot Basin and Safety Operations ski skill assessment and have a copy on file. Attributes: Strong team member able to take direction Motivated and observant; able to perceive needed tasks and complete them without direction Self-aware; able to identify strengths and gaps in own abilities and training to use taught skills and previous experience to problem solve Trustworthy and capable of working unsupervisedFor your safety it is very strongly recommended that Safety Operations staff preforming patient care have up to date inoculations against; Polio Hepatitis A/B Mumps/Rubella Diphtheria tetanus Varicella Measles Influenza (yearly) & COVID 19. Employees in this position are responsible for providing the following tools: black ski pants insulating layers mits/gloves helmet as well as other sundry items. Skis/snowboard boots a uniform a vest personal first aid kit a head lamp and other tools are provided for your use at work and should only be used at work. All employees in this position are required to:Complete the Marmot Basin and safety operations ski skill assessment and have a copy on filePass a ski binding test for all work boots & skis performed & recorded by Marmot Basin Rental/Repair :
