Description

The Cato Institute is seeking applications for an Administrative Assistant for Educational Initiatives to assist the department with administrative and operational duties. This position supports Catos educational endeavors by scheduling and preparing meetings and programming materials preparing reports managing expense reports assisting with booking travel editing documents managing contracts and providing general support to the department staff. The position will support all members of the Educational Initiatives team with work spanning Catos educational events and conferences Cato Courses Briefings Cato University the Cato Internship Program Research Associate Program alumni engagement and with limited additional support for Catos Sphere Initiative.


This is a hybrid position in Washington DC.


The projected salary range for this role is $40000 $65000 per year. Compensation is based on the successful candidates educational background experience and skills.

Responsibilities

  • Provides administrative operational and clerical support to department staff.
  • Manages online approval systems for expenses reimbursements and travel.
  • Coordinates with department leadership and Catos legal team to manage work contracts
  • Coordinates and stages meetings and programming events including scheduling with both internal and external parties reserving space and coordinating/obtaining catering if needed.
  • Updates standard operating procedures data records and file structures.
  • Coordinates with the team to facilitate the digital and physical procurement and distribution of Educational Initiatives materials both internally and externally (i.e. books mailers merchandise etc.)
  • Supports department colleagues and performs additional duties as assigned.
Requirements


Education and Experience

  • At least one year of professional work experience ideally in an executive or administrative support-related role.
  • An associate degree in any related field.
  • Proficiency in Word Excel PowerPoint and Outlook required.
  • Familiarity with Salesforce preferred.
  • An understanding of libertarian political philosophy and economic theory; passionate about the mission of the Cato Institute.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; comfortable interacting with individuals of various professional backgrounds and experience levels.
