Overview
Responsible for day to day leadership activities involved with a team of clinical professionals in the execution of rehabilitation medicine services. Provides appropriate discipline specific patient care. Leads and/or participates in the implementation of continuous quality improvement and customer satisfaction measures and improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities
Clinical Practice
- Maintains a discipline specific caseload of patients at a productive level determined appropriate by direct manager while balancing expected job duties of Supervisor and Therapist
- Administers treatments and occupational agents as prescribed by a referring physician in an effort to restore function and prevent disability following injury disease or physical disability.
- Directs and coordinates care with Assistant Staff Aides/Techs and discipline specific Therapy students.
- Maintains records pertinent to the personnel and operation of the department.
- Meets current documentation standards and policies. Uses approved abbreviations when recording information.
- Ensures that patient charges are accurate and entered on a timely basis.
- Assists patients to reach their maximum performance and level of functioning while learning to live within the limits of their capabilities.
- Observes and evaluates treatment affect. Recommends change to physician if needed.
- Performs an appropriate evaluation and periodic assessments on each patient as related to the therapy requested per policy and/or insurance requirements.
- Able to assess patient pain interfering with optimal level of function or participation in rehabilitation - makes appropriate physician contact for intervention.
- Formulates a teaching plan based on identified learning needs and evaluates effectiveness of learning; family is included in teaching as appropriate.
- Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly. Maintains department cleanliness and safety.
- Communicates appropriately and clearly to physicians staff and administrative team.
- Coordinates and directs patient care to ensure patients needs are met and hospital policy is followed.
- Consults other departments as appropriate to collaborate in patient care and performance improvement activities.
Administrative/Supervisory
- Coordinates work flow schedules and work priorities of those supervised. Supervises day to day activities of rehab staff: including performance improvement coaching disciplinary actions and annual reviews. Monitors and approves e-time for accuracy.
- Regularly tracks each staff members patient care time assuring optimal accountability. Regularly audits patient care notes and charges for accuracy. Coaches staff who are not meeting department targets: promoting efficiency through education and continuous improvement process.
- In conjunction with manager or as assigned by manager handles patient or staff complaints and performs safety investigations as requested.
- Coaches staff in service excellence teamwork communication dependability and professionalism.
- Assists with orientation of new hires and inservice training for department staff members.
- Participates in guidance and educational programs.
- Provides on-the-job training where necessary assures completion of discipline specific competencies and identifies staff training opportunities.
- Solicits staff need for supplies equipment and other resources (all within approved budget).
- Functions as a trustworthy conduit of information between leadership and staff. Solicits meeting agenda items from staff and leads disciplines monthly meetings.
- Meets regularly with all levels of the team to share information and collaborate on challenges.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelors Masters or Doctoral degree as required for applicable OT PT or SLP therapist role.
- Completes yellow belt / green belt training.
- 5 years of experience in their profession preferred.
- Proven leadership experience in current or previous facilities preferred.
Required Licensure/Certifications
REQUIRED LICENSE(S):
NH Licensed Occupational Therapist
Licensed Physical Therapist OR Licensed Occupational Therapist OR Licensed Speech Language Pathologist
