Job Description Summary
The Manufacturing Test Manager will lead a team of test engineers to ensure the reliability safety and performance of the end of line test of GE Vernovas power electronics products that are used in its global HVDC projects. As a visible member of the manufacturing leadership team you will inspire those around you and be responsible for delivering operational excellence in the SQDC (Safety Quality Delivery Cost) framework.
Your mission is to implement the optimum test strategy across manufacturing with engineering teams to ensure safety quality reliability and efficiency to meet the rigorous demands of our customers. This role ensures that all products meet or exceed customer expectations and comply with regulatory standards.
With an increasing workload safety quality and efficiency in all operations will be a critical to meet our business targets. Using Continues Improvement/ Lean methods you will remove waste and ensure that the test equipment downtime is minimised.
The role is a pivotal position in a fast-paced environment that requires both technical expertise strong leadership and clear communication. Ultimately leading the Manufacturing Test team to create a strong quality and safety culture with engaged and motivated staff while maintaining strong working relationships with all stake holders (internal external and customers).
Job Description
Key Responsibilities
- Safety & Governance:Enforce strict high-voltage safety protocols and ensure all testing complies with global standards.
- Strategic Leadership:Define and own the end-to-end test strategy including the roadmap for full test automation and the adoption of modern toolchains (e.g. Python MATLAB/Simulink Labview or TestStand). Owning of IT requirements and equipment for test system integration.
- Team Development:Mentor/coach a team of tester engineers; manage resource allocation performance reviews and training on emerging technologies.
- Project & Budget Management:Oversee concurrent test programs ensuring all milestones are met on time and within budget while managing equipment procurement and maintenance to minimise test plant downtime.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration:Serve as the primary technical liaison between Engineering design (Hardware and Software) and manufacturing teams to drive implementation of test circuit and root cause analysis (RCA) for the fault found during testing using structured methodologies (e.g. 5Y 8D or FMEA).
Skills & Experience
- Technical Expertise:Experience in power electronics testing (AC/DC DC/AC) with a deep understanding of electrical test circuits power semiconductor behaviour such as IGBT and thyristor and thermal management. Interpretation of technical drawings specifications schematics charts etc. with an ability to understand interpret and apply IEC standards.
- Significant experience in power electronics or electronic product testing
- Considerable experience in leading in a manufacturing test environment with automated manufacturing test equipment.
- HV Safety Senior Authorised Person with experience of Electricity at Work Regulations 1989 (EAW)
- Proven experience of using diagnosing tools such as high-speed oscilloscopes signal processor multi-meter and insulation tester
- Automation & Data Fluency:Proficiency inVB Python MATLABLabview or TestStand for test and test data automation and the ability to process large datasets for real-time KPI reporting via tools like Excel Power BI or Tableau.
- Soft Skills:The ability to communicate complex technical risks to non-technical stakeholders and lead through influence in a matrix organisation.
- Desirable: Experience of working with IEC 62501
- Desirable: Experience of High-pressure hydraulic testing and associated water conditioning.
- Desirable: Advanced manufacturing methods and subsequent implementation
Qualifications
- Education:Bachelors degree in electrical engineering.
- Desirable: Robotic framework certified professional (RFCP).
- Desirable: NI (National Instruments) Power Electronics Certification.
Working Conditions:
- The role involves both office-based work and hands-on activities on the production floor.
- Ability to work in a shift based manufacturing environment including standing or walking for extended periods.
- Overtime/weekend working may be necessary to support production.
- This position will require standing for extended periods and will involve exposure to the production floor.
- Personal protective equipment (PPE) will be required depending on the work setting.
- Attending meetings and reporting as necessary to support the business.
- May require lifting and carrying materials and equipment.
- This position may require occasional travel to sister sites suppliers and customer sites.
