Description of Work

The Counselor in Charge (CIC) position serves in the New Bern Unit Office and provides leadership and support to the units operations. The role functions as acting Unit Manager as needed and offers casework direction for vacant caseloads. The Counselor in Charge supports four counselors and three support staff ensuring continuity of services and consistent application of agency policies and procedures. This position also assists the Unit Manager with operational oversight including caseload budget management for Vocational Rehabilitation (VR) and Independent Living (IL) services compliance with program Standards and Indicators and implementation of the Dual Customer Approach.

Key Responsibilities:
The individual in this position is responsible for designing and implementing the units comprehensive plan for vocational and independent living rehabilitation services for individuals with disabilities. Duties include providing supervision and guidance to staff on VR and IL casework and policy procedures to support consumers in achieving employment and independent living goals. The Counselor in Charge will work closely with community partners to strengthen collaborative efforts and expand opportunities for individuals with disabilities. Additional responsibilities include assisting with onboarding coaching and training new counselors to ensure program consistency and effectiveness.

Salary Range: $48222.00 - $84388.00

Recruitment Range: $48222.00 - $72000.00

Position is funded in part through federal funds.

    Masters degree in rehabilitation counseling or counseling from an appropriately accredited institution and two years of experience as a rehabilitation counselor;

    OR

    Current certification as a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor by the Commission of Rehabilitation Counselor Certification (CRCC) and two years of experience as a rehabilitation counselor;

    OR

    an equivalent combination of education and experience.

    Necessary Special Requirement: Successful completion of the agency requirements for independent counselor status.
