In accordance with the Vision Purpose and Values and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.

Reporting to the Manager the Coordinator Occupational Therapy is responsible for the day-to-day operation supervision and direction of designated staff in Therapy and rehabilitation services. Providing leadership to the multi-disciplinary team this position coordinates and facilitates daily clinical activities ensuring effective use of resources reflective of the MHAS vision and mission. This includes participating in establishing and meeting annual objectives; clinical leadership for occupational therapy and other designated staff participating in program and service delivery planning implementation and evaluation of assigned areas; and budgetary input and implementation. This position collaborates with the Manager to ensure that the Therapy Services provided are efficient and effective and support client centered care . Supervises and evaluates staff provides leadership and functions as a role model and coach to assist staff with professional development and achievement of unit/service/program goals. Takes a long-range view of operations and patient/client/resident service delivery and follows through on issues that impact on the overall quality of patient/client/resident care provided. Develops policies and procedures/ standards for operationalizing patient/client/resident care at unit/service level. Contributes to the monitoring and development of the operating plan. Provides leadership within the unit/service for quality and risk management activities. Engages in program and community development when appropriate and as directed.

Travel may be a requirement of this position. Transportation arrangements must meet the operational requirements of Island Health in accordance with the service assignment and may require the use of a personal vehicle.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education Training And Experience

  • Current licensure in a practicing category with the College of Health and Care Professionals of BC as an Occupational Therapist; and
  • Graduate of a recognized Occupational Therapy Program; and
  • Knowledge of occupational therapy modalities and scope of practice in the context of MHSU settings; knowledge of the processes related to continuous quality improvement; knowledge of business management practices related to the operations of program and/or hospital services; and
  • Five (5) years recent related experience including two (2) years in a supervisory capacity; and
  • Valid BC Drivers License
  • An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with patients staff other health care providers community agencies and the public.

  • Work as a member of the multidisciplinary health care team.
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Promote and foster good public relations- meet deadlines.
  • Operate related equipment including computerized systems.
  • Physically able to perform the duties of the position.
