DescriptionIn accordance with the Vision Purpose and Values and strategic direction of the Vancouver Island Health Authority (Island Health) patient and staff safety is a priority and a responsibility shared by everyone; as such the requirement to continuously improve quality and safety is inherent in all aspects of this position.
Reporting to the Director FMO the Senior Manager is responsible for overseeing the daily operational management and/or maintenance of physical plant services which includes responsibility for the coordination of trades supervisors and staff plant operations technical staff utilities and equipment and systems maintenance and administration. The Senior Manager is responsible for adherence and compliance with municipal provincial national and healthcare-specific regulatory codes and standards in a manner consistent with industry best practices to ensure a safe efficient and reliable environment for the delivery of healthcare-related services. The Senior Manager is responsible for maintaining and implementing operating budgets identifying assets for capital renewal and for long-term capital maintenance planning.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education Training And Experience
A Bachelors Degree in Engineering or College diploma in Engineering Technology supplemented with seven (7) to ten (10) years recent related progressive supervisory and management experience in a large complex unionizedenvironment or an equivalent combination of education training and experience.
Skills And Abilities
- Demonstrated working knowledge of building systems operations and maintenance practices in a complexenvironment.
- Demonstrated working knowledge of appropriate legislation relevant laws/by-laws and provincial/nationalstandards.
- Proven initiative judgement decision-making and problem-solving capabilities.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and take action in a crisis management environment.
- Demonstrated ability to coach and lead team members.
- Effective communication and interpersonal skills and proven ability to develop and maintain rapport withstaff and other stakeholders.
- Ability to prioritize work and meet tight deadlines in a dynamic environment.
- Ability to work independently and as a member of a team.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
