The Position
WCW is offering an excellent employment opportunity to fill a Collection Systems Crew Memberpositionin our Collection System Operations Division.

This crucial position is ideal for candidates who are reliable flexible and accountable for their work. Candidates should have a strong understanding of collection systems operations and procedures but also interpersonal skills and the ability to find creative ways to problem solve.

Key assignments include construction repairs cleaning and inspection work. Specifically:
  • Mechanical Rodding
  • Hydro flush cleaning
  • Vac-truck operation
  • Sewer line spot repairs
  • Wet well cleaning
  • CCTV sewer line inspection

Collection System Crew Members will regularly communicate via telephone and radio perform heavy manual work operate hand and power tools including compressors jackhammers and cement mixers.
Work also include:
  • Entering and researching data on computers
  • Removing blockages and obstructions from sewer lines
  • Excavating trenches to line and grade and repair old pipe install new pipe couplings and fittings and
  • Reading understanding maps and underground sewer systems.

Essential Duties

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES: Depending on assignment duties may include but are not limited to the following:

COLLECTION SYSTEM CREW MEMBER:

  • Perform a variety of construction repair cleaning and inspection work including rodding hydroflush cleaning television camera inspection vapor rooting and new pipe underground construction;
  • Operate maintain and perform preventive maintenance on equipment and tools such as trucks power tools sewer rodder hydraulic jet cleaner front loader backhoe compressor sewer line TV inspection unit and related equipment and tools;
  • May enter and research data on computer;
  • Remove blockages and obstructions from sewers repair and replace structures such as manholes and rodding inlets;
  • May assist other agencies in removing blockages and obstructions from storm drain lines;
  • Assist in laying and repairing sewer pipe;
  • Conduct sewer line inspections with TV camera or smoke test;
  • Excavate trenches to line and grade and repair old pipe install new pipe couplings and fittings;
  • Read and interpret maps of underground sewer system;
  • Install and inspect wastewater flow meters;
  • Operate electronic metal detection equipment and hazardous gas detectors;
  • Utilize proper safety precautions and follow WCWs procedures related to all work performed including the entering of manholes in accordance with specified WCW procedures;
  • Break and cut concrete and paved surfaces using jackhammers pavement and cement saws perform patch paving work;
  • Use a variety of manual-operated tools and devices in cleaning sewer lines;
  • Assist in maintaining and caring for tools and equipment;
  • Perform heavy manual labor and enter confined space areas;
  • May perform limited maintenance and cleaning of District buildings and grounds;
  • Perform related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION:
Any combination equivalent to experience and education that could likely provide the required knowledge and abilities would be qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience: Two (2) years of general work experience in construction and maintenance of wastewater facilities pipe lines plants buildings equipment or vehicles.

Education:Possession of a high school diploma G.E.D. Equivalency or California high school proficiency certificate.

LICENSE OR CERTIFICATE: Possession of a Grade I Collection System Maintenance Certificate issued by the California Water Environment Association (CWEA). Newly appointed employees must meet this requirement prior to successful completion of probation.
