Staff Assistant I or II

USU Extension in Emery County is seeking a creative and positive person to work as a staff assistant to Extension faculty. Hours will be Monday-Friday 8:30 am to 5:00 pm in the USU Extension office in Emery County. This is a full-time benefited position. Applicants should be able to work well independently and in a team. Some evening and weekend work may be necessary. This position is administratively responsible to the Emery County Extension Director.

• Performs office duties including answering phones directing calls to appropriate parties data entry filing appointment scheduling and other general duties as assigned.
• Provides administrative support including scheduling appointments coordinating meetings/conferences and maintaining/ordering office supplies.
• Greets and directs visitors.
• Sorts screens and distributes incoming and outgoing mail.
• Composes and word-processes various standard documents correspondence and reports.
• May update website content.
• May provide non-business-related support for departmental programs and projects.
• Conducts research compiles data and prepares papers for consideration and presentation by executives committees and directors.
• Arranges maintenance of office equipment.
• Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualificaitons

• For Staff Assistant I High school diploma/GED or aptitude is required.
• For Staff Assistant II - Two years of experience in an office setting or an associate degree/vocational training is required.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities

• Skilled with computers and related software.
• Skilled with basic office equipment including printers copiers and telephone systems.
• Good organizational skills.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential business data and personal information.
• Ability to work without supervision.
• Knowledge of University policies and procedures

The environment and physical requirements may change depending on the specific function of the work each department performs. Incumbents may be in both indoor and outdoor environments. Indoors in an office space event space or public space are protected from weather conditions but not necessarily from temperature changes. Incumbents may nearly continuously sit and often use repetitive hand motion (such as typing). This position requires moderate physical effort. Employees must have sufficient strength to perform the duties and responsibilities of the position including lifting up to 25 pounds walking and standing.
