Provide quality venipuncture or capillary services for patients including pediatric with lab orders while practicing universal precautions in a timely and cost effective approach as well as ensuring all lab tests ordered are recorded on the lab router and within the LIS in compliance with all Federal and State regulations while maintaining excellent customer service. Position covers all locations and requires flexibility to be assigned to and rotate to all sites.

This Clinical Laboratory Assistant will be floating between MUSC Health East Cooper MUSC Health West MUSC Health North and Clements Ferry Pavilion.

Job Description

Provide quality venipuncture or capillary service for patients of all ages with lab orders by a physician while practicing universal precautions. Perform venipuncture witha timelyandcost effectiveapproach asdeemedappropriate bythis organization.

Responsible foraccuratedata entry of patient demographic information and assays ordered into all computer applications. Provide andmaintainlab documents to include faxed results as specified by the organization and regulatory agencies.

Responsible for proper processing and handling of specimens in accordancetothe specific guidelines of MUSCP/MUSCP-PC or other reference laboratories. Ensure quality assurance by documenting any remedial actions and communicating information asappropriate.

Maintain medical suppliesin accordance withcost effective parametersestablishedby MUSCP/MUSCP-PC to perform job tasks.

Responsible for decontamination of assigned areas and documenting the information.

Attend in services and meetings andparticipatein committees and continuing education asrequested.

Additional Job Description

Minimum Training and Education:HighSchool Degree or Equivalent Work Experience: 0-6months.State licensure and/or professional certificationrequirement/s dependent on position.

Required Licensure Certifications Registrations:Certificate of Phlebotomy preferred.State licensure and/or professional certificationrequirement/s dependent on position.

Physical Requirements:Continuous requirements are to perform job functions while standingwalkingand sitting. Ability to bend at the waist kneel climb stairs reach in all directions fully use both hands and legspossessgood finger dexterity perform repetitive motions with hands/wrists/elbows and shoulders reach in all directions. Ability to be qualified physically for respirator use initially and as. Maintain 20/40 vision corrected see and recognize objectsclose at handand at a distance work in a latex safe environment and work indoors. Frequently lift lower push and pull and/or carry objects weighing 50lbs(/-) unassisted exert up to 50lbsof force lift from 36 to overhead 25 lbs. Infrequently work in dusty areas and confined/cramped spaces.
