Job Summary

Summary

The Department of Otolaryngology-Head and Neck Surgery at Baylor College of Medicine in Houston Texas is seeking a full-time Speech-Language Pathologist. The ideal candidate should have experience in the evaluation and treatment of laryngectomy/TEP management and swallowing disorders in the head and neck cancer patient population. Ability to independently perform modified barium swallow studies FEES is preferred. Training can be provided if experience in a particular area is lacking as the employee will be expected to evaluate and treat a variety of patients with voice and swallowing disorders if needed. The successful candidate will work within a growing multidisciplinary team of laryngologists head and neck surgeons and speech pathologists. Additional opportunities available with this position include participation in weekly tumor board education and training of students and residents community outreach and participation in multidisciplinary research.

Our department has close working relationships with the other departments within Baylor Medicine as well as across the Texas Medical Center including Texas Childrens Hospital Ben Taub Hospital and the Michael DeBakey VA Medical Center. This position will be located at the Jamail Specialty Clinic. The address is 1977 Butler Blvd Suite E5.100 Houston TX 77030.

The ideal candidate must have a Masters degree and must be eligible for or hold a Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech-Language Pathology and licensure from the state of Texas. Clinical fellows are welcome to apply if they have a strong background in voice and/or swallowing disorders.

Job Duties

  • Evaluates and treats inpatient and outpatient adults and pediatric patients with communication disorders and/or swallowing disorders.
  • Schedules appointments discusses patient progress and/or status with physicians and other professionals.
  • Provides patient/family education.
  • Monitors patient needs.
  • Documents daily treatment and evaluation results.
  • May supervise student externs.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Masters degree in Speech Language Pathology.
  • One year of relevant experience.
  • Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech Language and Hearing Association (ASHA) and Texas State Licensure as a Speech Pathologist from the Texas Department of Licensing & Regulation (TDLR).
