Description of Work
Salary Range: $39671 - $69426Reporting to a Correctional Lieutenant III and/or Correctional Housing Unit Manager III this position is responsible for assisting the
Correctional Lieutenant and/or in the supervision of Correctional Officers at a medium and close custody institution. Job responsibilities
include; but are not limited to the following:
Supervising Correctional Officer IIIs in a close-custody institution with restrictive and controlled housing.
Assigning lower-level custody staff to a particular area or post arranging work schedules to ensure shift coverage
implementing operational procedures and ensuring rules and regulations are followed according to policy.
Overseeing officer activities/performance and ensuring that the custody security and welfare of offenders are maintained.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences
- Knowledge of Facility Operations.
- Knowledge of Prisons Policy and Procedures.
Necessary Special Qualifications:
This is a full-time position working rotating shifts withState Benefits.

The salary grade for this position is NC08. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as or lower than their current position. If selected for this position a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience funding availability and internal equity. Based upon these factors a pay increase MAY result.

Tabor Correctional Institution is located in Tabor City North Carolina and houses up to 1752 male offenders in a close medium and minimum custody facility.
Minimum Education and Experience
Some state job postings say you can qualify by an equivalent combination of education and experience. If that language appears below then you may qualify through EITHER years of education OR years of directly related experience OR a combination of both. High School or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and three years of experience as a Correctional Officer
Or
Two years of experience as a Correctional Officer III
Or
An equivalent combination of education and experience.
