Job Description
We are seeking a computational biologist witha strongtrack recordof advancing biological discoveries through data analyses tojointhe VertexData and Computational Sciences(DCS)organization.In this role you willleveragecuttingedge computationalbiologyto accelerate the development of transformative therapies for serious human diseases.As a member of cross-functional disease project teams you willcontributetothedevelopment ofnoveltherapiesinareasincludinglung diseasesand pain.You willdesigngenomicsand human geneticstudiesdevelop and applyanalytical methods and interpret results that directlyinformprogram strategy target evaluation and mechanistic understanding.You willalsoplay a key role in innovating evaluatingand applyingstate-of-the-artcomputationalanalysestoenable rapid data-driven decisions.An independent and proactiveapproachalong withseamlesscross-functionalcollaborationwill be essentialfor success in this role.
This is a San Diego based hybrid position requiring 3 days/week onsite.
Key responsibilities:
- Proactively collaborate with crossfunctional project teams as thecomputational biologyexpert toidentifykey scientific questionsthat can beaddressedthroughhuman geneticsgenomics sequencing and computational analyses.
- Design andexecutestudiesacross diverse omics including bulk RNAseq wholegenome sequencing singlecell RNAseq spatial transcriptomics and human genetics.
- Perform sophisticated computational analyses of internal and external datasets integrating deep critical thinking statistical rigor domainexpertise and best practices from the literature to generate actionable insights.
- Incorporate publicly available genomic resources ( UK Biobank) to contextualize and interpret internal data.
- Distill complex analyses and scientific results intoclear presentations includingkey take-home messages and recommendations for next steps to a broadaudience.
- Author study reportswhite papersandmanuscriptsto supportinternal decision-making andexternal communications includingregulatory filings.
- Partner withtheDCSmethod development teamtodevelop innovative methods andimprove usability accuracy and robustness ofexisting ones.
Knowledge and Skills:
- A proven track record in the analysis visualization and interpretation of genomic and next-generation sequencing (NGS) data
- Solid scientific understanding of gene editing the role of genetic variation in human disease molecular biology and cellular biology
- Expertise with applying computational methods and bioinformatics tools to large-scale data
- Solid understanding of statistics
Education and Experience:
- PhD degree (orMastersdegree) in computational biology bioinformatics human genetics genomics systems biology bioengineering or a related field with 03 years (or 3 years forMastersdegree) of productive relevant industry or post-doc experience.
- A proventrack recordof stand-out excellence in the analysis visualization and interpretation of genomicdata (such asnext-generation sequencing (NGS))or human genetic data.
- Demonstrated ability towork acrosscross-functional teams ensuringtimelyprogress.
- Superior communication skills demonstrating confidence and versatility in presenting verbally to diverseaudiencesand writing technical documents.
- Deep scientific understanding of genetic variation in human disease molecular biology and cellular biology.
- Expertisewith rapidly applying computational methods and bioinformatics tools to large-scale data.
- Proficiencywith Rand/orpythonandhigh-performance computing systems;solid understanding of statistics.
- A team-oriented growth mindset that welcomes feedback from others and supports other team members; apositive attitude that enthusiastically tackles and overcomes challenges.

Pay Range:
$112000 - $168000Disclosure Statement:
The range provided is based on what we believe is a reasonable estimate for the base salary pay range for this job at the time of posting. This role is eligible for an annual bonus and annual equity awards. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay in accordance with federal and state requirements. Actual base salary pay will be based on a number of factors including skills competencies experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.
