Job Summary

SUMMARY
Programs sets up calibrates and operates a wide variety of machines in performing a wide variety of machining operations involving the most difficult set-ups and very difficult tolerances often for highly customized non-repetitive jobs. Sets up machine using knowledge of job requirements and materials used to enter control panel settings for tool travel axis movement and tool speeds. Frequently creates and implements tooling and work holding requirements for new product and machine installations; ability to work with extremely tight tolerances daily as a normal activity.

ROLE OBJECTIVE:
As an Advanced Machinist II at Wilson Tool your primary objective is to leverage extensive machining expertise contributing significantly to precision manufacturing. Take a pivotal role in setting up operating and adjusting various machines specializing in complex machining operations. Execute complex set-ups independently enhance existing programs and create new ones using multiple CAM packages and G/M code programming. Ensure machine performance aligns with product quality contribute to continuous improvement and provide mentorship.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
    • Machine complex parts for unique jobs which have multiple difficult physical and/or quality features high scrap risk and understand how those features impact the customer.
    • Develop new machines/processes from conception to production.
    • Engineer processes to bring highly customized unique and random jobs to completion.
    • Operate many types of complex machines responsible for knowing all machines in a value stream or use outside knowledge to continually advance a single machine technology and bring in additional business as the company expert for that technology.
    • Monitor machine performance to ensure that product quality and specifications are achieved.
    • Perform complex set-ups independently including frequently creating and implementing tooling and work holding requirements for new product and machine installations.
    • Creates complex custom CAM programs and/or write macros efficiently from scratch.
    • Measure dimensions of finished work pieces to ensure conformance to specifications using precision measuring instruments templates and fixtures.
    • Independently and efficiently implement ideas for improvement.
    • Provide ongoing mentorship and training to fellow employees.
    • Must contribute to Wilson Tools culture of continuous improvement.
    • Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Technical Skills:
  • Diploma or AAS degree in the machine trades.
  • Proficiency in G/M Code CAD/CAM Machinist Math GD&T and Inspection methods.
  • Minimum of 10 years of relevant machining experience.
  • Demonstrated success in technical math skills (Algebra Geometry Trigonometry).
  • Ongoing training in relevant technology.
  • Proven track record of developing new machines/processes from conception to production.
  • Ability to create complex programs and set up multiple styles of complex machines.
  • Advanced knowledge of multiple CAM packages.

Machining Abilities:
  • Demonstrated ability to accurately use and set up advanced measuring tools.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.

Computer Skills:
Basic computer skills including Microsoft Office typing 10-key and internet navigation.


PREFERRED EXPERIENCE
High school education or equivalent.
Technical Degree in CNC Machining or equivalent work experience.
CNC machining experience.

Work Environment:
Inside well-lit and climate-controlled manufacturing environment.

Work Schedule:
Full time: Monday Friday typically day shift determined by business need.
    • 1st SHIFT: 7:00a.m.-3:00p.m. or 8:00a.m.-4:00p.m.

CERTIFICATES. LICENSES REGISTRATIONS CNC Machining. Also needed or required by management.

Compensation:
Pay scale consists of Advanced Machinist II PayScale plus shift premium if appropriate.
