Program Profile

The Sexual Assault Domestic Violence (SADV) Care Program is a service that is accessed through the Emergency Department 24 hours a day to provide support medical care and forensic evidence collection to individuals who have experienced a sexual assault or to individuals who have experienced a recent incident of domestic violence. The service includes a follow-up clinic to provide medical and counseling services to anyone who has experienced domestic violence or sexual assault. The SADV Care Program is an outpatient clinic located at the Brantford General Hospital site of the Brant Community Healthcare System. The team consists of on-call Nurses Medical Director Program Co-ordinator and Social Workers.

Position Summary

Reporting to the Manager Department of Social Work you will be responsible to provide quality social work services congruent with the Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice of the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers. The social work position provides trauma- focused therapy and support for people who are current or past survivors of sexual abuse and/or domestic violence. The social worker is part of a multi-disciplinary team and is responsible for psychosocial trauma assessment developing treatment plans in conjunction with the client using a trauma- focused model to provide psychotherapy as well as advocacy and community liaison/referral as required. The social worker is required to maintain appropriate case records and departmental statistics as well as perform other related duties as requested/negotiated by or with the Manager and/or Coordinator.

Scheduled Working Hours

Monday to Friday 8-hour Shifts

Mandatory Qualifications

  • Master of Social Work Degree (M.S.W.) in Clinical Social Work from an accredited University School of Social Work
  • Current registration with the Ontario College of Social Workers and Social Service Workers (OCSWSSW) as a Social Worker.

Core Competencies

  • Minimum 2 years within the last 4 years experience in counselling clients who have experienced sexual abuse and/or domestic violence.
  • Demonstrated skills in the performance of a therapeutic role including strong assessment psychotherapy case management crisis intervention and advocacy skills.
  • Demonstrated training in recognized trauma therapies such as EMDR Somatic Experiencing Sensorimotor Psychotherapy or Trauma Focused CBT.
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing professional development with respect to the practice of social work.
  • Knowledge and understanding of womens health legal system as it pertains to sexual assault/domestic violence and related issues and a commitment to a feminist analysis of gender-based violence.
  • Competency in providing anti-oppressive person-centered care prioritizing intersectional analysis of social issues related to gender-based violence.
  • Knowledge of community resources and referral processes.
  • Established effective problem-solving organization crisis management and advocacy skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently as well as within a multi-disciplinary team including community partners.
  • Strong interpersonal communication teamwork and consultation skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds and perspectives.
  • Basic computer skills including Word Excel and Meditech.
  • Excellent attendance record.
