Position Summary

Rice University offers an exciting opportunity for a collaborative professional with strong interpersonal and analytical skills to serve as the Senior Equal Opportunity Specialist (SEOS). The ideal candidate is solutions-oriented and takes a proactive role in fostering an inclusive culture across all levels of the institution supporting a positive and healthy work environment. The SEOS oversees and conducts investigations related to discrimination harassment sexual misconduct (as defined by Title IX) and retaliation. Additionally the SEOS oversees Rice Universitys informal resolution program.

The ideal candidate will have strong experience with Title VI and VII of the CRA Title IX ADA/504 and demonstrate knowledge of equal opportunity human resources compliance and other related fields.

Workplace Requirements

This position is offered as a hybrid role combining both in-office and remote work to provide flexibility and support collaboration.Per Rice policy 440 work arrangements may be subject to change.

Hiring Range

This is a full-time benefits-eligible position with aproposed annual salary range of $80475 to $92500 depending on qualifications and experience. *Exempt (salaried) positions underFLSA are not eligible for overtime.

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelors Degree
    • In lieu of the education requirement additional related experience above and beyond what is required may be substituted on an equivalent year-for-year basis
  • 3 years of directly related progressive experience in conducting sexual misconduct/Title IX and discrimination investigations mediation restorative justice and other forms of dispute resolution.

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills

  • Excellent organizational skills and strong attention to detail
  • Good problem-solving ability

Preferences

  • Bilingual English/Spanish
  • Experience with Title VI and Title VII of the CRA Title IX ADA/504
  • Professional investigation experience in a university setting
  • Juris Doctorate degree

Essential Functions

  • Assist in monitoring and addressing incidents/complaints and overseeing the Universitys response
  • Work with various departments to investigate and resolve complaints of unlawful discrimination which includes interviewing witnesses analyzing evidence making determinations producing reports and in conjunction with the appropriate administrators formulating courses of action to address those matters
  • Interpret University policies and procedures and local state and federal rules and regulations related to EO issues
  • Compile and analyze data
  • Maintain accurate and compliant case files and databases
  • Design and deliver anti-discrimination programming for the University including delivering ongoing training designed to promote awareness and prevent discrimination harassment and sexual misconduct including domestic violence dating violence sexual assault and stalking
  • May schedule plan coordinate and organize special events for EOS
  • May prepare edit and produce publications and reports for the office
  • Manage informal dispute resolution
  • Perform all other job duties as assigned
