Park Overview

Clyde Holliday State Recreation Site is an oasis along the sparkling John Day River and a base camp for exploring the Strawberry Mountain Wilderness and the regions many historical sites.

Your New Role:

As a permanent full-time Park Ranger 3 you will have the opportunity to independently coordinate park projects activities and programs using your technical expertise and specialized park skills. You will mentor employees throughout the park management unit in specialized skills such as the maintenance and operations of OPRD programs and properties.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Five years of visitor services experience (e.g. rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR maintenance experience (e.g. construction trades landscaping)

OR

  • Associates degree in Park and Recreation Administration or Natural Resource Management or Environmental Studies and 3.5 years of visitor services experience (e.g. rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR maintenance experience (e.g. construction trades landscaping).

OR

  • Bachelors degree in Park and Recreation Administration Natural Resource Management Environmental Studies or a related field and 2 years of visitor services experience (e.g. rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR maintenance experience (e.g. construction trades landscaping);

Special Requirements:

  • To be hired a criminal record and driving record check must be completed that meets OPRD Criteria at the time of hire and throughout employment while also maintaining a valid drivers license.

  • Obtain and maintain the following certifications after appointment:

    • First Aid/CPR Certification

    • Enforcement Officer Status

    • Hazard Tree Faller Certification

Desired Attributes:

  • Experience conducting crews in facility operations and maintenance tasks including plumbing and irrigation repair carpentry electrical painting and landscaping.

  • Experience independently performing and leading others in performing routine and preventative maintenance on historical structures and park operated facilities.

  • Experienced in interpretation of natural historic and cultural assets.

  • Professional experience working in heightened and stressful situations including rule enforcement emergencies and responding to weather related events.

  • Experience in both developing and leading complex park construction and park improvement projects from start to finish.

  • Ability to lead park operations while educating the public about and requesting compliance with park rules and policies.

  • Experience mentoring coaching and training employees and volunteers in park maintenance and campground operations at the unit district and region level.

  • Experience registering guests in an overnight campground setting reconciling cash and credit card payments processing deposits while using a computer utilizing specific overnight reservation software.
