The Quantitative Healthcare Analysis (qurAI) group is an energetic interfaculty research group uniquely positioned across the Faculty of Medicine (Department of Biomedical Engineering & Physics BMEP) and the Faculty of Science (Institute of Informatics IvI). Here you will find a dynamic ecosystem where innovation scientific curiosity and societal impact go hand in hand.

What you will do

The healthcare domain is full of exciting challenges where AI can make a profound difference and we are looking for someone eager to take those this role you will dedicate 50% of your time to groundbreaking research and 50% to high-quality teaching mentorship and curriculum development. Specifically you will:

Conduct cutting-edge research in AI for healthcare (50%)

  • Conduct high-impact research in AI-driven medical image analysis computer vision machine learning and related fields
  • Lead and contribute to multidisciplinary projects with clinicians scientists and industry partners.
  • Secure funding publish in leading journals and present your work at international conferences.
  • Supervise motivated PhD candidates and contribute to the research community.

Shape the next generation of AI talent (50%)

  • Teach engaging courses in AI machine learning and medical imaging at the bachelors and masters levels.
  • Innovate in your teaching methods and help shape our curriculum for the future.
  • Mentor students and inspire them to explore complex challenges in AI for healthcare.
  • This balanced division between research and education allows you to grow as a researcher while making a meaningful contribution to the future of AI education at UvA

What we ask of you

Your experience and profile

  • A PhD degree in Artificial Intelligence Computer Science Engineering or closely related field;
  • excellent research skills evidenced by a track record of publications in renowned international journals and contributed and/or invited talks at international conferences/workshops;
  • a strong background experience and expertise in research in the area of AI and Medical Image Analysis;
  • teaching experience at university level and proven didactic abilities;
  • some experience with the (co-)supervision of BSc MSc and/or PhD students;
  • excellent oral and written communication skills;
  • ability to contribute to research valorization and to research and teaching outreach activities;
  • capable of multidisciplinary co-operation;
  • has the Dutch Basic Teaching Qualification (UTQ/BKO) or the willingness to acquire this within the first two years;
  • has an excellent command of English and Dutch Non-Dutch speakers are expected to learn Dutch within two years by passing the state examination for Dutch as a Second Language (NT2) programme II.

What we offer you

We offer a temporary employment contract for 38 hours per week for a period of 18 months. The preferred starting date is as soon as possible. A permanent contract follows if we assess your performance positive.

The gross monthly salary based on 38 hours per week and dependent on relevant experience ranges between 4728 to 6433 (scale 11). This does not include 8% holiday allowance and 83% year-end allowance. The UFO profile UD2 is applicable. A favourable tax agreement the 30% ruling may apply to non-Dutch applicants. The Collective Labour Agreement of Universities of the Netherlands is applicable.

You will work in this team

The Faculty of Science has a student body of around 8000 as well as 1800 members of staff working in education research or support services. Researchers and students at the Faculty of Science are fascinated by every aspect of how the world works be it elementary particles the birth of the universe or the functioning of the brain.

The mission of the Informatics Institute (IvI) is to perform curiosity-driven and use-inspired fundamental research in Computer Science. The main research themes are Artificial Intelligence Computational Science and Systems and Network Engineering. Our research involves complex information systems at large with a focus on collaborative data driven computational and intelligent systems all with a strong interactive component.

The Quantitative Healthcare Analysis (qurAI) is an interfaculty group embedded in the Faculties of Medicine (Department of Biomedical Engineering and Physics - BMEP) and Science (Institute of Informatics -IvI) of the University of Amsterdam with strong ties with clinical department at the Amsterdam University Medical Centers (Amsterdam UMCs) as well as close collaborations with parties as the Netherlands Cancer qurAI we focus on the development and clinical implementation of socially responsible AI innovations in healthcare so as to become an indispensable part of the Amsterdam ecosystem in the field of AI and healthcare.
