Job Description:
Day Program Instructor
Statement of Purpose: To provide teaching and support to Broadview Village Enrichment Program
participants within the program philosophy
Qualifications: For Full Time Day Program With Caseload instructor:
1) Completed Developmental Services Worker diploma or other degree/diploma
related to human services
2) Experience working with people who have developmental disabilities
3) Valid Standard First Aid certificate (including CPR)
4) Training and/or experience in medication administration
5) Training and/or experience in personal care (assisting with G-tube feeding
continence devices)
6) Training and/or experience in supporting individuals through ambulates
mobilizers transfers
7) Computer skills (Microsoft word publisher excel internet)
8) Experience in individual program planning
9) Experience in community outreach
10) Teaching skills (demonstrated ability to implement various teaching
approaches and group instructor skills)
11) Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Certificate and Behaviour Management skills
12) Drivers license is an asset
13) Competency in swimming an asset
PROGRAM RESPONSIBILITIES:
1) Act as a role model for all participants as reflected by appearance behaviour and attitude
2) Perform caseload responsibilities as assigned
3) Provide support to participants personal development as decided through individual support planning
4) Know and respond to the safety and health care of participants
5) Provide teaching and support to Enrichment Program participants
6) Document and maintain records as required
7) Provide ideas and feedback on program content
8) Participate in monthly planning and share responsibility of preparing monthly program calendar as assigned
9) Participate in PA days as assigned
10) Ensure learning opportunities are provided using agency and community resources
11) Follow and promote the agency and program goals and philosophies
WORKPLACE FACILITY ORGANIZATION
1) Adherence to individual food lists and restrictions and Lunch time protocols
2) Ensure the general BVEP facility appearance is clean and tidy before the shift is completed
3) Account for use of monies TTC tokens household supplies etc.
4) Complete daily clean up and maintenance routines as required (i.e. dishes washrooms floors disinfecting toys teaching items cleaning art supplies laundry and stocking shelves etc.)
NOTE: The position of day program instructor may also encompass the designation(s) of Counselor-In-Charge (CIC) and/or FT Day Program Instructor with Caseload as described on the following pages
COUNSELLOR IN CHARGE (Usually assigned to FT staff only)
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:
The role of the C.I.C. is to oversee the program needs in the absence of the Program Supervisor/Manager
SHIFT RESPONSIBILITIES
1) Direct delegate coordinate organize and ensure the completion of shift responsibilities
2) Ensure relevant information is communicated
3) Ensure adequate staff coverage to meet the needs of the the event of staffing shortage C.I.C. is responsible for the coverage of the succeeding shift until back up staff can arrive.
4) Ensure shift reports and program data are completed.
5) Ensure incident reports are completed and forwarded to Program Supervisor/Manager
6) Ensure emergency procedures are followed
7) Ensure that medications Policies and Procedures are followed
CASELOAD ASSIGNMENT (FT w/ caseload only)
STATEMENT OF PURPOSE:
Full time day program instructors will assume the following responsibilities for assigned caseload:
A Attendance and participation in all program meetings as assigned
i. Team Meetings
ii. Admission/Transfer/Discharge meetings
iii. Annual open house
iv. Program Review Meetings / PA Days
v. Consultations with other professionals
vi. Other meetings as arranged
B Completion and presentation of information for program related meetings
i. Assessments
ii. Monthly progress reports
iii. Reports applications and consents as required
iv. Other documentations as required
C Development implementation and evaluation of the Individual Support Plan (ISP) in consultation with the participant Day Program Manager and other members of the ISP Planning Team.
D Ensure the following for assigned caseload
i. Support and/or coordination of day activities
ii. Relationships with family peers friends volunteers and others
iii. Support and or coordination of outreach and vocational opportunities
iv. Representation/advocacy for monthly planning (ie. Calendar of events)

PHYSICAL EFFORT/DEXTERITY REQUIRED: The performance of the job requires bending/twisting/lifting; considerable walking; standing; writing; computer work; and light housekeeping.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: The incumbents work environment is typically in a day program/classroom type facility.
The incumbent works under generally agreeable conditions with the following exceptions:
Exposure to dirt bodily fluids bodily waste
Noise
Dealing with angry and abusive people
Verbal abuse
Handling garbage
Odours
EXPOSURE TO HAZARDS: The incumbent may be exposed to risk of minor to moderate injury or illnesses due to the following:
Physical attacks by others (i.e. being attacked by a participant)
Exposure to infectious diseases
Exposure to toxic chemicals
Exposure to bodily fluids
Sharp objects
Other dangerous situations
PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES: The incumbent must take the following precautionary measures (in addition to Health and Safety rules):
Universal Precautions
WHMIS Training
First Aid certification
Police/Criminal Reference Check Vulnerable Sector Screening
Nonviolent crisis intervention training
Work Schedule: 40 hours per week Monday-Friday 8am-4pm
Main location is 150 Railside Rd occasionally may work at 1132 Broadview Ave. - to meet program needs
Compensation:
The target hiring range for this position is $27.09 to $28.11 with a maximum of $29.13.Placement in the salary range will be based on factors such as market conditions internal equity and candidate experience skills and qualifications relevant to the role.
