Capital city newspaper seeks state government reporter

The Wyoming Tribune Eagle the capital citys longest-running and most trusted media organization is looking for a dynamic journalist with a passion for government accountability enterprise and solutions-driven reporting to serve as our state government reporter.

Do you enjoy telling readers how government decisions will impact their daily lives

Would you enjoy working with other reporters and photographers to provide readers with the most comprehensive coverage of the state Capitol

Are you energized by breaking news stories first online and then working to provide the deeper broader context behind the event

Do you aspire to learn from and support other journalists as part of a dynamic newsroom team

With more than 150 years of history covering southeast Wyoming the WTEs readers depend on us for coverage of city county and state government crime and court health care education entertainment sports and much more. The winner of first place in General Excellence from the National Newspaper Association Foundation four of the last five years including in 2025 the WTE is committed to providing subscribers with the news they need when they need it and in a format that best fits their lifestyle whether thats through our mobile app on our website on social media or in print.

Essential skills for our state government reporter include: the ability to turn around a story on a tight deadline from meetings that can last an hour or all day; clear concise writing that tells readers what they need to know without wasting their time and bogging them down in government jargon; a willingness to collaborate with fellow newsroom team members to cover the news regardless of when and where it happens; and a solid foundation in news writing and AP style.

Preferred skills include: knowledge of the BLOX content management system; experience with or willingness to learn reporting and editing skills for our weekly podcast; photography skills or a willingness to learn; data analysis using spreadsheets databases etc.
