We are seeking a Decision Scientist to leverage data science disciplines to solve business problems create innovative products and services and improve processes. This role focuses on translating active business data into strategic insights designing advanced analytics models and enabling data-driven decision-making through AI and machine learning strategies.

Duties & Responsibilities

Data Analysis & Decision Support
Frame data analysis in terms of decision-making processes for business questions posed by stakeholders
Analyse and optimise data within specific business areas to uncover opportunities for improvement increased revenue or cost reduction
Design and implement advanced quantitative models to support strategic decisions
Translate complex data into actionable insights that drive business outcomes
AI & Machine Learning Strategy
Contribute to Capitecs AI/Machine Learning roadmap and enable data-led decision-making
Build predictive models using statistical and machine learning techniques and deploy them into production environments
Apply modern software development best practices and solution design for scalable analytics
Collaboration & Business Integration
Work closely with stakeholders to gather requirements and translate them into business solutions
Collaborate across functional teams to ensure alignment with regulatory requirements and organisational objectives
Support business analysis and contribute to the design and delivery of innovative solutions
Technical Implementation
Extract aggregate clean and analyse data from large relational databases
Work in cloud environments (Azure AWS) and navigate hybrid setups (cloud vs on-prem)
Apply version control and containerisation (e.g. Docker) for machine learning models
Ensure compliance with NCR POPIA SARB and other regulatory frameworks

Skills & Experience:
Strong programming skills (SQL SAS) and database manipulation
Proficiency in data exploration visualisation and statistical model development
Advanced computer literacy and experience with multiple operating systems
Ability to productionalise models and apply complex machine learning methodologies
Knowledge of predictive modelling techniques and deployment processes
Familiarity with cloud computing and modern software development practices

Qualifications:
Degree in Mathematics Statistics Data Science Business Analytics Engineering or Computer Science with 4 years relevant experience
OR Honours Degree with 3 years relevant experience
OR Masters Degree in Data Science or related discipline
