Job Summary

JOB DESCRIPTION


The position is based at GCAT within the IGTP (Institut Germans Trias i Pujol) and is part of a multidisciplinary team working on biobanking and biomedical research activities to support cancer and precision medicine studies. The candidate will perform technical and operational tasks related to sample management biobanking and quality control ensuring traceability and compliance with protocols to support ongoing GEUS-COMPASS Project a collaborative initiative withIDIBELL Aniling and IGTP.
GCAT is more than a single project; it is a national health strategy that integrates biological genomic and clinical data from over 20000 Catalan participants to advance population health research. This position is funded by the Ministry of Science Innovation and Universities and the European Union NextGenerationEU / Recovery Transformation and Resilience Plan within the framework of the 2024 Public-Private Collaboration call.


MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Perform control tracking and full traceability of biological samples throughout all stages of biobanking.
  • Maintain manage and ensure continuous quality control of the GCAT biorepository following SOPs and quality standards.
  • Update and maintain repository information systems and associated documentation accurately.
  • Prepare organize and coordinate sample processing and shipment for GCAT research projects ensuring compliance with handling protocols and regulatory requirements.
  • Receive register verify and dispatch biological samples ensuring integrity labeling and chain-of-custody are maintained.
  • Apply and monitor laboratory and biobanking protocols including quality assurance procedures and SOP compliance.
  • Collaborate autonomously with GCAT team members to deliver biobanking services providing technical expertise and operational support.
  • Plan and organize sample collection workflows including aliquoting labeling and storage preparation for internal use or external distribution.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCIE
The position involves working with the GCAT biorepository including leading biobanking activities and management and control of biological sample repositories.
  • Official Professional Training degree (Formación Profesional FP) corresponding to post-secondary education in laboratory sciences biomedicine or human biological sample management.
  • Previous experience in biobank or laboratory sample handling.
  • Experience in routine sample tracking traceability and quality control of huiman biosamples.
  • Knowledge and practical use of LIMS platforms and automated or robotic systems for sample management will be considered an asset.
  • Strong organizational skills attention to detail and ability to work accurately following established procedures.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary research team.
  • Basic knowledge of English for understanding technical documentation.
  • Knowledge of Catalan and Spanish will be considered an asset.
  • Availability to work in a position linked to a research project initially funded for two years with an indefinite contract during this period and the possibility of continuity in a stable position in the future; these conditions are aligned with the position and do not constitute a barrier to entry.

  • Type of contract and working hours: Indefinite contract funded by project CPP2024-011298 within the framework of the 2024 Public-Private Collaboration call funded by MICIU/AEI/10.13039/ and by the European Union (NextGenerationEU / FEDER). The contracted person will devote 100% of their working time to the project. (Ley de la ciencia 17/2022)
  • Date of incorporation: Immediate incorporation.
  • Gross remuneration: Remuneration will be established according to the candidates education and experience in line with the centers standard salary scales.
