JobSummary:AScientistIIprovides advancedexpertiseand is anadvancedlevel positionfor sciencedegreed laboratory personnel withat least5years ofcoatingsexperience.This position requires the ability to carry out experiments and complete tasks with a highdegree of uncertainty with an advancedlevel of judgement and independent thinking.
EssentialResponsibilities:
Independentplanning andownership of project workwithcomplete accountability for projects ofadvancedcomplexity
Advanced understanding of formulation techniques and raw materials in multiple technology areas
Experimental design of and application of Design for Lean Six Sigma formulation strategies
Identifyand implement formulation process and testingupgradesto improve productivity
Serve asa team leader/Project Manager inCustomization or New Solution/Technology Projects
Provideadvancedtechnical support to internal and external customersincluding problem resolution that is complex in nature.
Customer support activities including on site presentations and technical support
Reviewof internal and external reports
May supervisetechniciansday to day activities
Minimum Qualifications:
Demonstratesa high levelofquality andleadership with a demonstratedtrack recordofsignificantsuccessful project commercialisationsor technological advancements
Effectiveand proactivecommunication with Work Contacts such as peers manager seniormanagementand other internal departmentsas well as customers
Ability to work to a timeline effectively communicate obstacles and self-prioritize work activitiesin a low structure environment
Advanced level of formulation knowledgein multiple technologiesasdemonstratedby the ability to make complex formulation adjustments including raw material choice tomodifyproperties aswith little to no supervision
Advanced level knowledge of testing procedures asdemonstratedby the ability tooperateadvanced equipment or performcomplex testing withnosupervision
Ability to performintermediatemathematical calculationssuch as stoichiometry
Ability tooperateexperimental design software
Ability tocompletereporting requirements such asmaintaininga laboratory notebook and/or generatingcustomer ready reportsusing Microsoft Office to accurately document activities
Ability to work well in a team atmosphereandpossessingthe interpersonal skills required to effectively communicate with customers and other departments within Hempel
Successful completion of specialized testing forcolorvision may be
BA BS or MS in Chemistry ChemicalEngineeringPolymerChemistryor related field
5years experience in Coatings or a closely related field
