  • Music Teacher as part of the music department teaching band orchestra chorus and/or general music in elementary or junior high grades and assist in other after school programs as assigned.

    MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

    1. Teaches skills in music appreciation harmony and explorations in music and in instrumental music (band orchestra instrumental ensemble) and/or choral music (chorus choir choral ensemble) to pupils. Utilizes course of study adopted by the Board of Education and other appropriate learning activities.
    2. Instructs pupils in citizenship basic communication skills and general subject matter specified in state law and administrative regulations and procedures of the school district.
    3. Plans a balanced music program and organizes daily class time so that preparation rehearsal and instruction can be accomplished within the allotted time.
    4. Provides individual and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil.
    5. Utilizes repertoire of all types of music literature including traditional and contemporary that are appropriate for the ages and skill levels of pupils.
    6. Controls the storage and use of school-owned property; makes minor adjustments and requests repairs to instruments as required.
    7. Establishes and maintains standards of pupil behavior to provide an orderly productive environment during practice group rehearsals and music performances.
    8. Evaluates each pupils musical growth and performance assessing each individuals contribution to the performance of the group.
    9. Plans rehearses and directs pupils in musical programs for school and community.
    10. Applies knowledge of national state and district procedures and limitations set on performances.
    11. Selects and requisitions books musical instruments and instructional aides; maintains required inventory and music library records to prevent loss or damage to equipment.
    12. Communicates with parents and school counselors on pupil progress.
    13. Identifies pupil needs and cooperates with other professional staff members in helping pupils solve health attitude and learning problems.
    14. Cooperates with school administration in providing musical programs for school productions graduation ceremonies and/or civic functions.
    15. Supervises pupils in out-of-classroom activities during the assigned work day.
    16. Participates in curriculum and other developmental programs.
    17. Participates in faculty committees and sponsorship of student activities.
    18. Maintains professional competence through in-service education activities provided by the district and/or in self-selected professional growth activities.
    19. Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
    1. Valid California Teacher Credential with Music and CLAD/EL Authorization
    2. Bachelors Degree with major or minor in music(Masters degree desired)
    3. Ability to play at least one standard orchestra instrument ( if instrumental teacher) or ability to sing (if choral teacher)
    4. Knowledge of musical structure form terminology and conventions. Working knowledge of developmentally appropriate skills correct vocal production skills and/or pedagogical techniques for all band/orechestra instruments. Communication skills and aural training to detect a discrepancy in pitch and intonation. Piano accompanying skills.
    5. Appearance grooming and personality establish a desirable model for pupils.
    6. Ability to meet district standards for physical and mental health.
    7. Better than average recommendations from student teaching supervisors or other professionals who have observed the personal characteristics scholastic attainment and classroom performance of the teacher.
    8. Must be able to adapt to working in spaces not normally used for group instruction when regular classroom space is not available.

    SALARY AND TERMS OF SERVICE:
    Annual Salary Range:$58805 to $119064 with 25 incremental steps. Step placement on the salary schedule is determined by the number of years of prior experience in the position classification within an accredited educational institution. Additionally column placement on the salary schedule is determined by the number of educational-related post-baccalaureate units earned from a regionally accredited college or university (new hires are not eligible for placement on Column VII in their first year of District employment).Additional compensation of $1500 per year for Masters Degree holders or additional compensation of $2500 per year for Doctorate Degree District currently contributes up to $19793.00 towards family dental medical and vision insurance plans along with a life insurance plan for the employee.
