VCA Canada Calgary Animal Referral and Emergency Centre is accepting applications for our 2026 Summer Veterinary Student DVM position. This is a great opportunity to apply your classroom studies within a hospital environment and acquire first-hand experience in working closely with VCA Canada veterinary professionals.
Our Summer DVM Student position will provide you with invaluable insights into your career path post-graduation. As a valued member of our team you will develop practical and professional skills by working under the supervision of a licensed veterinarian and/or registered technicians/technologists.
You will be introduced to the inner workings of our hospitals while also gaining exposure and education in the following areas:
Patient intake and triage
Patient handling and restraint
Client care and relationship management
Treatment and hands-on compassionate care
Observe or assist in surgical & non-surgical procedures and anesthesia
Record keeping
Train in the use of in-house practice management software
General hospital maintenance
*The amount of responsibility duties supervision and delegation will depend on your veterinary school year and provincial veterinary legislation guidelines*
Requirements:
Applicants must be enrolled in an AVMA-accredited DVM program
Legally authorized to work in Canada
ABVMA temporary DVM license
Must be able to lift at least 40 lbs repeatedly
Exceptional client service skills that build trust and loyalty
Calm compassionate and nurturing attitude
