OVERVIEW: Upward Bound is a U.S. Department of Education TRiO funded program. The UW-Stevens Point Upward Bound Program serves eligible low-income first-generation-to-college students in central and northern Wisconsin. The program aims to generate the skills and motivation necessary for students to enter and complete a postsecondary education after high school. This is a temporary six-week summer teaching position for high school students in the Upward Bound Program. All participants are either first-generation ( do not have a 4-year degree) and/or low-incomestudentsgrades ninethrough twelve. The Upward Bound Program hostsstudent-participants from eight target high schools in five counties from Central and Northcentral Wisconsin.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be enrolled at an institution of higher education (undergraduate or graduate)

  • Minimum 2 years of college course work completed in pursuit of a music education or music related field

  • Minimum 2.75 GPA

  • Excellent organizational skills

  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively

  • Ability to be flexible adaptable and team oriented

  • Ability to teach a course in choral music and performance

  • Ability to develop a course syllabus as well as assess student progress

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Three years of college course work completed at a postsecondary institution.

  • Minimum 3.0 GPA

  • 1 year of experience in teaching or leading music related programs at the middle or high school level

  • Familiarity with TRIO and Upward Bound Programs

DUTIES:

  • Teach an introductory choral music class during the Upward Bound Programs 4-week summer session for 10th 12th graders. The class meets twice a week for 50 minutes each class period.

  • Prepare students enrolled in music class to perform at the summer end awards banquet on July 23rd.

  • Develop and submit a course syllabus prior to first day of classes.

  • Complete evaluations on each student enrolled in class.

  • Attend a one-day staff orientation/training prior to first day of class.

  • Attend instructor meetings with Upward Bound Administrative staff.

DATES OF EMPLOYMENT & SALARY: June 11 2026 staff orientation/training; classes meets June 28 July 24 2026. This is a short-term temporary position and is contingent upon federal grant funding. Total salary: $1900.
