Job Summary
Job Summary (List Format):
- Adjusts complex high-exposure and politically sensitive property and liability claims and lawsuits filed against the state (including bad faith medical malpractice highway design DES/CPS employment auto liability personal injury fatalities constitutional rights violations large property losses etc.).
- Performs detailed investigations to determine liability and settlement values including analyzing investigative materials and physical evidence.
- Determines coverage conducts factual investigations interviews witnesses and involved parties and secures recorded statements.
- Researches and applies relevant tort contract and case law to claim handling and litigation preparation.
- Prepares file summary reports litigation reports and claim files for litigation collaborating with the Attorney Generals Office as needed.
- Negotiates and settles claims/lawsuits within delegated authority or makes recommendations for resolution securing necessary approvals.
- Prepares cost-benefit analyses to guide actions in the best interest of the state.
- Procures and coordinates with independent experts consultants and appraisers as required for claim evaluation and defense.
- Prepares and submits authority requests settlement documents and notices for loss prevention review.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
