Job Summary

Job Title: Wintel Server Engineer / Administrator


Location: Wexford or Dublin (Onsite - Hybrid with a maximum of 2 days per month onsite for meetings if required at either of the Client office locations)

Contract / Permanent: 12 Months with further Extension

Start date: March 2026 or as soon as possible thereafter


Experience Level Required:

It is a mandatory requirement that the Resource proposed has the equivalent of Junior Resource (03 years) experience in this Role

It is a mandatory requirement that the Resource proposed hold the following qualifications or equivalents:

The equivalent of an NFQ Level 6 in Computer Science Business Information Systems Engineering Information Technology.

Fluent English required / Non-native speakers: C2 Proficiency or equivalent (or verified during presentation)



Key Deliverable:

The following non-exhaustive list of Key Deliverables are applicable to this Role.


1. Server build/upgrades

The end-to-end process of setting up new server infrastructure or enhancing existing servers to meet evolving organisational needs. This includes:

Planning and specifying hardware requirements.

Installing and configuring operating systems and essential software

Applying security hardening measures.

Ensuring compliance with Client standards.

Upgrading server hardware components (e.g. memory storage processors) and software (including operating systems and server applications) to improve performance reliability and security.

Testing prior to deployment to confirm stability and compatibility with existing systems.

Maintaining comprehensive documentation including configuration steps change logs and rollback procedures to support ongoing maintenance and future troubleshooting.


2. Server & desktop patching

The systematic process of applying updates security patches and bug fixes to both server and desktop operating systems as well as installed applications to ensure all systems remain secure stable and compliant with organisational and regulatory requirements. This includes:

Developing and maintaining a patch management schedule to ensure timely identification and deployment of critical updates.

Assessing the relevance and impact of each patch by reviewing release notes vendor advisories and compatibility with existing infrastructure.

Testing patches in a controlled environment prior to deployment to minimise any risk of service disruption or incompatibility with existing applications.

Coordinating patch deployment across all relevant servers and desktop devices using automated tools where possible while ensuring minimal disruption to users and business operations.

Monitoring the success of patch installations troubleshooting failed updates and implementing rollback procedures if necessary.

Maintaining comprehensive records of all patching activities including schedules applied updates issue logs and compliance reports for audit and review purposes.

Staying informed about emerging vulnerabilities and new patches released by software vendors to proactively address security risks.


3. Server & infrastructure monitoring

Tracking and analysing the performance availability and security of servers to ensure optimal operation and early detection of issues. This process includes:

Implementing monitoring tools to track server health metrics such as CPU memory disk usage and network activity.

Setting up alerts for critical thresholds to enable prompt response to potential problems.

Regularly reviewing logs for unusual activity or signs of hardware and software failures.

Monitoring service uptime and response times to maintain high availability and performance standards. Documenting monitoring procedures response actions and incident reports for ongoing improvement and compliance.


4. Contribute to documentation and Standard Operating Procedures

Create update and maintain clear comprehensive records of operational activities technical procedures and incident responses.

Ensure all documentation accurately reflects current practices.

Support training and compliance requirements through effective documentation.

Facilitate efficient knowledge transfer within the team by maintaining up-to-date documentation.



Requirements

Key Experience/Competencies/Skillsets:

The following Experience/Competencies/Skillsets are applicable to this Role.


1. Server build/upgrades: A minimum of 2 years experience carrying out server builds and upgrades in a Windows and VMware environment to include the following:

Planning and specifying hardware requirements.

Installing and configuring operating systems and essential software.

Applying security hardening measures.

Ensuring compliance with organisation & regulatory standards.

Upgrading server hardware components (e.g. memory storage processors) and software (including operating systems and server applications) to improve performance reliability and security.
