The Junior Crane Mechanic role offers a unique opportunity for recent technical school graduates to develop expertise in crane service and restoration through hands-on participation in a structured 12-month Junior Crane Mechanic Training Program.
This position is designed for individuals looking to gain advanced technical skills and prepare for a career as a Crane Mechanic upon successful program completion. Working alongside experienced mechanics and technicians participants will focus on repairing and restoring crane components through everyday maintenance tasks gaining practical experience in troubleshooting and servicing equipment.
Additionally the program includes a specialized rebuild project offering hands-on involvement in crane disassembly repair and reassembly further enhancing technical expertise. The program combines on-the-job training with progressive skill-building to ensure candidates are equipped for independent shop roles and long-term career growth.
Responsibilities
- Actively participate in the Junior Crane Mechanic Training Program completing progressive hands-on training and assessments over the course of a minimum of one year.
- Conduct inspections cleaning and repairs on critical components such as hydraulics electrical systems engines and structural parts under expert guidance.
- Prepare tools equipment and workspaces for crane rebuild tasks ensuring efficiency for senior mechanics.
- Assist lead technicians in disassembling repairing and reassembling rough terrain crawler and mobile crane equipment as part of structured rebuild projects.
- Document rebuild progress component conditions and findings reporting directly to supervisors and senior technicians.
- Follow rigorous safety protocols and ensure compliance with company quality standards throughout the rebuild process.
Requirements
- Completing a vocational degree/certificate in a relevant field is preferred.
- Basic mechanical principles particularly in maintaining cranes and heavy equipment.
- Strong interest in developing skills in crane rebuilds including troubleshooting diagnosing and repairing leading brands such as Liebherr Manitowoc Grove and Tadano.
- Physical ability to lift up to 40 lbs.
- Valid drivers license with a clean driving record.
- Demonstrates a strong work ethic reliability and eagerness to learn specialized skills under senior team members.
Training Program Highlights
The 12-month Junior Crane Mechanic Training Program is a comprehensive curriculum designed to prepare trainees for independent shop roles and graduation to a full Crane Mechanic position. The program is structured into four quarters each focusing on specific areas of crane mechanics:
Quarter 1: Knowledge Foundation & Shop Familiarization
Learn crane components safety protocols rigging basics and inspection techniques.
Perform inspections fluid checks and lubrication services.
Quarter 2: Hands-On Experience & Basic Troubleshooting
Gain foundational skills in electrical hydraulic and mechanical systems.
Replace basic parts troubleshoot minor issues and complete 500-hour Preventative Maintenance jobs.
Quarter 3: Intermediate Technical Skills Development
Focus on advanced repairs in circuits drive systems and LMI and A/C systems.
Perform hydraulic services cylinder resealing and 2000-hour Preventative Maintenance jobs.
Quarter 4: Advanced Skills & Capstone Project
Develop diagnostics expertise and complete a capstone project.

This program is a minimum one-year commitment culminating in graduation to a Crane Mechanic position.
