Position Overview
The Progressive Care / Intermediate Care Unit Registered Nurse provides specialized nursing care to adult patients requiring step-down level monitoring and treatment. This role supports patients transitioning from higher levels of care or those requiring more intensive monitoring than a medical-surgical unit.
Candidate Requirements
Active New York State RN License must be in hand at submission (no exceptions; NY is not a compact state)
Years of Experience: Minimum 1 year of acute care nursing experience
First-Time Travelers: Accepted
Local Candidates: Must reside more than 75 miles from the facility
Certifications
BLS (AHA required)
Clinical Skills & Competencies
Ability to manage 1:5 to 1:7 patient ratios in a MedSurg/Step-Down environment
Experience with arterial lines and/or vasopressor titration
Cardiac monitoring and emergency response including:
Interpretation and management of dysrhythmias
Activation and participation in Rapid Response and Code teams
IV therapy and phlebotomy:
Peripheral IV line care and management
Respiratory support:
Nasal cannula
Oxygen face masks
Portable oxygen tanks
Non-invasive airway management
Infection prevention:
Isolation precautions
Unit Overview
Step-down / intermediate care unit serving adult acute-care patients
Patients admitted from multiple care areas including emergency post-operative recovery intensive care and medical-surgical units
Continuous telemetry and pulse-oximetry monitoring for all patients
Care includes:
Airway management
Acute BiPAP support
Arterial and central line monitoring
Titrated IV medication infusions
Emphasis on evidence-based practice multidisciplinary collaboration and vigilant patient monitoring
