Job Description
The Dry Dock/Waterfront Front Line Supervisor will be responsible for the crew and maintenance of systems on Floating Drydock #3. Reporting to the Dockmaster for the day-to-day management of a multi-disciplinary crew conducting maintenance repair and operation of BIWs Floating Dry Dock #3. Shall act as a backup for the Dockmaster when he is not present overseeing waterfront safety and operations within the shipyard. Applicants must be able and willing to work and train towards certification as a floating dry dock FOS IAW USN MILSTD 1625D. Ability to self-manage and take initiative; must be a self-starter requiring limited supervision.
Key Responsibilities
- Safety Leadership:
- Maintain a safe working environment at all times.
- Provide advice on waterfront safety as a subject matter expert.
- Contribute to attainment of company safety goals.
- Project Execution:
- Support the execution of the dry dock preventative maintenance program and maintain accurate records.
- Assist in maintaining the certification of Floating Dry Dock under MILSTD 1625D.
- Execute facility repairs.
- Facilities Management:
- Oversee day to day management of dock crew including work assignments project planning and direct supervision as required.
- Aid in planning and executing inspections and dock evolutions including vessel transfers and launches.
- Maintains all mechanical and fluid systems on the dry dock.
- Training and Development:
- Interpret technical drawings and publications as required.
- Occasional travel to other GD shipyards for training and support opportunities.
- Provide training to LS6 mechanics on dry dock systems.
- Team Collaboration and Communication:
- Collaborate with other shipyard departments to facilitate efficient operations and execute complex projects.
- Carry a BIW mobile phone and assist with dock scheduling requirements.
- Continuous Improvement:
- Execute all aspects of the Business Operating System.
- Perform other duties as assigned by management.
Required/Preferred Education/Training
- Associates or Bachelors Degree in a STEM related field preferred.
- Unlimited 3/AE Engineer or 3/M license issued by USCG preferred.
Required/Preferred Experience
- Experience leading a crew.
- Excellent command of English language.
- Technical understanding of shipboard/dry dock systems.
Preferred
- Formal education in marine operations.
- Knowledge of ships stability.
- 1 year experience in a supervisory role.
- Experiential or academic knowledge of operation maintenance and repair of marine systems.
- Familiarity with Maximo NS5 or equivalent computer based PMS.
- Proficiency in computers to include Microsoft Office Suite applications.
- Familiarity with maritime and shipyard industry best safety practices.
- Familiarity with reading and interpreting ships drawing project specifications etc.
- Maritime Education.
