Ensworth School seeks a dynamic and intellectually engaging teacher to join its high school Science and Math Departments. Strong candidates will have demonstrated abilities to develop strong relationships with students and colleagues and to collaborate within and across their disciplines. A love for teaching high school students is essential to this position as are the abilities to align teaching and learning to Ensworths Core Skills Framework flexibility in teaching multiple levels and courses within the disciplines and the capacities to adapt to new technologies and create experiential STEM-based learning opportunities.

The ideal candidate will have experience teaching a range of math and science courses including physics and chemistry. The ability to develop curriculum plan lessons manage a lab safely provide differentiated instruction assess student progress integrate educational technology and facilitate inquiry-based learning is essential. Applicants should hold a degree in math physics chemistry or a related field and multiple years of teaching experience at either the high school or college level are preferred. While the primary professional responsibility of an Ensworth faculty member is to conduct the Schools curricular program this instructor will also serve as a student advisor and have co-curricular extracurricular complementary and professional responsibilities as articulated in the Ensworth Employee Handbook.

Key Responsibilities and Essential Functions:

  • Abides by Ensworths Employee Handbook and Code of Conduct.
  • Commits to the ideals expressed in Ensworths Mission Statement Vision Statement and Diversity Equity and Inclusion Statement.
  • Adheres to the Essential Expectations of an Ensworth Faculty Staff or Administrator
  • Teach 5 sections or the equivalent each semester within the science and math program. with particular focus on physics and chemistry.
  • Serves as an advisor to a small group of 10-12 students helping to guide them through their high school journey.
  • Integrates technology to support curricular aims and help students effectively achieve their goals.
  • Provides continual assessment of student progress and communicates academic performance through the use of status reports and online grade books.
  • Provides student support and supervision both inside and outside the classroom.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications/Experience:

  • Bachelors degree or higher in a related field
  • 3 years of experience in a high school or college setting
  • Advanced understanding and ability to use computers and technology including google docs spreadsheets and online databases
  • Highly developed organizational skills
  • Well-developed interpersonal written and verbal communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively with all constituents in a school environment including students co-workers and parents.
  • Teamwork dependability flexibility willingness to listen and learn problem-solving skills and congeniality are essential
  • Must successfully complete background screening and verification
  • Continued Education Programs (as required by Grade Level and/or position) Periodically participate in different training sessions identified by you the employee and/or Divisional Leadership/Supervisor with the goal of keeping our teachers and staff up to date with current teaching methods practices and any new knowledge in their respective on the program such training may need to take place outside of normal working hours and/or in the summer months.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:

  • Regularly works in standard office or classroom conditions and climate occasionally works outdoors in varying weather conditions and climate
  • Regularly uses close and distance vision Works at a computer screen for extended periods of time Ability to observe students from various distances
  • Works at a desk for extended periods of time frequently moves around campus
  • Ability to occasionally move items 30 lbs. across the campus
  • Sometimes works in an occasionally stressful environment effectively dealing with a wide variety of challenges deadlines and a varied and diverse array of contacts
  • Stamina to maintain attention to detail despite interruptions
  • Ability to regularly work flexible hours to support before and after-school or weekend events
  • Ensworth requires employees to be physically present on campus with limited exceptions that are at the sole discretion of the School. Under extraordinary circumstances some or all of the workforce may be required to move to a remote working environment. Additionally certain individuals may also be approved for limited remote work based on the nature of the job description specific circumstances and only with written prior approval by a direct supervisor.
