General Summary:

We are ChiArts. Chicagos first public arts high school. The Chicago High School for the Arts (ChiArts) develops the next generation of diverse artistically promising scholar-artists through intensive pre-professional training in the arts combined with a comprehensive college preparatory curriculum. Over 2500 hours of tuition-free pre-professional arts training are provided to every scholar-artist from freshman year to graduation. Our alumni are pioneers as scientists educators entrepreneurs and change-makers and from millions of plays on Spotify to touring with a dance company to published writing to making art that challenges and entertains us on stage and screen they are blazing new pathways.

Position Overview:

ChiArts is seeking a dedicated Bilingual Teacher (Spanish/English) to provide instruction and language support services for multilingual learners in both Spanish and English. This teacher will deliver content instruction in Spanish and/or co-teach in English-speaking classrooms to ensure language access and academic progress for students identified as English Learners (ELs). The ideal candidate has a strong commitment to equity culturally and linguistically responsive practices and interdisciplinary collaboration.



Qualifications

Key Responsibilities:

Instruction & Student Support

  • Design and implement rigorous student-centered instruction in Spanish in core content areas (e.g. Social Studies Math Science).
  • Co-teach or push into English-speaking classes to support EL students in accessing grade-level content.
  • Develop bilingual materials and modify instruction to meet students language proficiency levels.
  • Provide language development support aligned with WIDA standards and CPS guidelines.
  • Use trauma-informed restorative and anti-racist practices that foster a safe inclusive classroom environment.

Collaboration & Compliance

  • Collaborate with general education diverse learners and arts instructors to ensure cohesive support for multilingual learners.
  • Participate in EL programmatic planning including the administration of the Home Language Survey (HLS) and EL identification procedures.
  • Support the creation and monitoring of Transitional Bilingual Education (TBE) and Transitional Program of Instruction (TPI) services.
  • Ensure documentation and implementation of accommodations modifications and assessment supports for EL students.

Professional & School Engagement

  • Maintain accurate records of EL services monitor student progress and contribute to EL program compliance.
  • Serve as an advisor supporting students academically socially and emotionally.
  • Communicate regularly with families in their home language when possible.
  • Participate in school-wide professional development open houses family engagement events and faculty meetings.
  • Contribute to the cultivation of a school culture rooted in excellence equity and collaboration.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelors degree from an accredited institution.
  • Valid Illinois Professional Educator License (PEL) with a Bilingual (Spanish) Endorsement required.
  • Must be fully bilingual in Spanish and English with the ability to teach content in Spanish.
  • Experience with EL programming co-teaching models and culturally responsive pedagogy preferred.
  • Strong understanding of WIDA standards language acquisition and EL compliance requirements in CPS.
  • Effective communicator collaborator and advocate for multilingual learners.
  • Commitment to continuous growth teamwork and a belief in the power of the arts in education.

Working Conditions:

Job Hazards: This position requires a fingerprint and background check conducted by Chicago Public Schools.

Travel Requirements:This position does not require travel as part of the job responsibilities however travel may be required to attend professional development/conferences.

Salary and Benefits:

Full-Time position.

Salary Range: $60000$75000

Pay will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
