The Wisconsin Humane Society (WHS) is hiring a seasonal Summer Camp Counselor to engage young people who have completed grades 1-9 in our fun-filled camp programs. The Summer Camp Counselor reports to the Director of Youth Programs and is based at the Milwaukee and Ozaukee campuses. This is a 40 hour per week role that runs from June 15 August 21 with training taking place the week of June 15. Key accountabilities:
- Lead campers through games hands-on activities presentations and interactions with animals
- Facilitate high-impact camp programs in alignment with organizational resources and priorities
- Support youth program volunteers who assist with camp activities
- Provide a safe interactive learning environment for campers and animals in a fast-paced environment
- Follow all camp and youth programs protocols
- Monitor effectiveness of camp activities and programs and work with youth programs staff on any adjustments needed
- Set up and clean up camp space and classrooms
- Use organizationally aligned positive behavior strategies to support youth
Qualifications:
- At least 18 years old
- Ability to travel to the Milwaukee and Ozaukee campuses
- Available for a minimum of eight of the weeks of camp and training listed above
- Comfortable presenting to diverse groups of young people and communicating to a wide variety of audiences
- Dedicated to providing strong customer service
- Experience and ability to effectively work with young people who have completed grades 1-9 and meet them where they are
- Works well with a team and can lead outlined activities with minimal supervision
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and demonstrate flexibility while juggling multiple responsibilities
- Comfortable handling dogs cats and small animals like rabbits and guinea pigs
- Demonstrated alignment with our mission people-centered philosophy and organizational values of compassion respect and kindness; innovation; professionalism; equity; and positive approach
- Ability to navigate emotional aspects of animal welfare work
Hourly Rate: $15
