A cashier handles customer transactions at the point of sale ensuring payments are processed accurately while providing friendly efficient service.
Core responsibilities
Greet customers scan items verify prices and quantities and process payments via cash card or digital methods.
Issue receipts give change and handle refunds returns and exchanges according to store policies.
Answer basic customer questions about products promotions and store layout and direct them to other staff when needed.
Accuracy and workspace
Balance the cash drawer at the start and end of shifts recording discrepancies and maintaining accurate transaction records.
Follow procedures for coupons gift cards discounts and age-restricted items like alcohol or tobacco.
Keep the checkout area clean organized and well-stocked with bags receipt paper and other supplies.
Qualifications :
Skills and requirements
Basic math skills attention to detail and familiarity with POS systems scanners and card terminals.
Good communication patience and customer service skills especially during busy periods or when resolving complaints.
Typically requires secondary education and prior retail or customer-service experience is preferred but not always mandatory.
