Job Summary

Job Title: Pharmacy Specialist

Supervisor: Health Services Coordinator

Department: Residential

FLSA Status: Hourly

Summary: Oversee the medication administration system and coordinate health services

information with all appropriate parties.


Essential Duties

  1. Promote the mission and values of KCARC through personal example providing educational opportunities communicating with honesty inviting input and expecting mutual accountability.
  2. Retrieve Baker Center incoming faxes and disbursement.
  3. Coordinate medication needs of the participants with pharmacies as needed.
  4. Receive all pharmacy deliveries ensuring accuracy of all medications by

checking prescriptions and labels against e-MAR. Coordinate participants pharmaceutical needs with internal and external contacts as needed. Order inventory and prepare packaged medicines for homes and work sites from pharmacy.

  1. Coordinate meetings and route all necessary paperwork and approvals for the Human Rights Committee.
  2. Coordinate and verify budget discretion with appropriate fiscal personnel for client medications.
  3. Deliver meds as needed and complete all physical medication changes.
  4. Carry the after-hours pharmacy phone.
  5. Provide medication administration training to new hires and re-training to staff as needed. Complete staff competency checks on medication administration.
  6. Coordinate pharmacy reviews quarterly.
  7. Maintain and model professionalism appropriate work interactions with program participants and coworkers confidentiality at all times and a positive attitude within the work environment.
  8. Perform medication audits at all residential sites.
  9. Load approved Medical HRC documents to the BDDS Portal.
  10. File Incident Reports for all medication errors and thoroughly investigate with documentation of investigation.
  11. All other duties deemed necessary.
  12. Additional hours if needed are mandatory

Requirements


Qualifications:

  1. Maintain reliable transportation available for use during working hours valid drivers license and provide proof of automobile liability coverage.
  2. Maintain flexible schedule to meet the demands of the department.
  3. Possess excellent research and writing skills.
  4. Possess the ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  5. Possess the ability to establish effective working relationships.
  6. Possess the ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  7. Be proficient in Windows and Microsoft Office products (Computer literate).
  8. Accept responsibility and demonstrate leadership.


Education and/or Experience:

High School Diploma or GED required. Prior secretarial experience including typing and computer data entry knowledge required. Pharmacy Technician A.S. or certificate preferred.

Certifications/Licenses/Registrations:

Medication Administration: Core A and B

CPR First Aid


Physical Demands:

The employee must be able to perform the essential duties of this job.


Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this job the employee is occasionally exposed to fumes airborne particles and outside weather conditions. The noise level is usually moderate but occasionally loud. Use of Personal Protective Equipment such as vinyl or latex gloves is occasionally required.
