Fisher College a four-year higher education institution located in the heart of the Back Bay district in Boston is currently seeking to hire a Financial Aid Office Assistant for GPS Operations to join our Financial Aid team.

The Financial Aid Office Assistant for GPS Operations will perform a wide range of general office procedures to support enrollment and retention efforts for the Graduate and Professional Studies (GPS) Division of the College. Responsibilities include but are not limited to managing confidential files answering phones responding to email inquiries coordinating mailings and generating various reports.

This position supports GPS students in navigating their financial journey through college by providing financial aid and billing counseling to current newly admitted and readmitted students. By proactively addressing financial barriers and fostering success throughout their academic programs the role contributes to increased degree and certificate completion while strengthening student progression and retention. This position reports to the Director of Financial Aid.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

  • Manage and maintain updates to the financial aid database for the Graduate and Professional Studies (GPS) Division.
  • Monitor and oversee the financial aid process for newly admitted and returning students within the GPS Division.
  • Collaborate directly with GPS Admissions Academic Advisors Registrar and the Student Accounts teams to ensure seamless transitions between departments.
  • Assist students in analyzing their financial aid offer and developing a financial aid plan that aligns with their enrollment goals while also providing clear guidance on financial policies and procedures to promote student success and retention.
  • Maintain regular communication with students to resolve students outstanding balances facilitate alternative financing options reduce account receivables and mitigate student withdrawals or accounts sent to collections.
  • Organize and maintain GPS student files to ensure compliance with Fisher Colleges annual A-133 audit requirements.
  • Assist Director of Financial Aid with developing and implementing various college initiatives for GPS students.
  • Other special projects and tasks assigned by the Director of Financial Aid.


Qualifications

KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED

  • College degree required
  • Demonstrated industry knowledge of financial aid and its processes preferably within an online teaching environment.
  • A minimum of two years experience in customer service sales role; or equivalent combination is required. Experience in an academic setting is preferred.
  • Strong analytical skills required to collect evaluate and interpret data in complex situations.
  • Proven ability to collaborate across departments fostering mutual understanding and promoting effective teamwork.
  • Strong technical skills in relation to database management system integration generating Excel reports and documenting policies and procedures. Knowledge of PowerFaids and various Department of Education Platforms (COD NSLDS) preferred but not required.

WORKING CONDITIONS

  • Work which frequently produces a high level of mental/visual fatigue. Work at times which is performed under pressure or which requires exceedingly strong attention to detail.
  • Position demands include but are not limited to: careful reading attention to detail maintaining confidentiality problem solving strong verbal and written communication skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks under tight deadlines.
  • Physical demands: standing hearing sitting climbing bending speaking writing and in-person attendance.
  • Following a probationary period employees who demonstrate strong independent work skills attendance and punctuality may transition to a combination of onsite and hybrid remote work.
