DescriptionThe Potomac School is seeking a collaborative pianist and accompanist for its Lower and Middle School choral programs. Qualified candidates should have at least a bachelors degree in piano and possess strong sight-reading skills as well as the ability to perform incidental music for assemblies. The collaborative pianist will work closely with the music department chair as well as the Lower and Middle School music teachers to support rehearsals and performances. This position requires availability in accordance with our 6-day rotational schedule which is set in advance to provide consistency for students staff and programming.
Compensation will be paid as a per diem rate. This position will not be considered benefit eligible.
Position Overview:
Lower School:
- Preparing and accompanying known community songs for (almost) weekly Friday sharing assemblies
- Preparing and accompanying for 3rd grade chorus (once every six days)
- Accompanying for grade level and divisional rehearsals in the week(s) leading up to the special assemblies and performances.
- Accompanying music groups for assemblies as needed.
- Accompanying as needed for grade level plays
6th Grade Chorus:
- Attend 6th grade chorus rehearsals (once every six days)
- Attend Middle School Assemblies that require the 6th grade chorus to perform.
Intermediate School:
- Attend 2-3 rehearsals prior to a concert and the concert.
- Additional support may occasionally be needed throughout the year. This will be arranged as necessary.
QualificationsEssential Skills & Qualifications:
- High level of expertise in piano performance including strong sight-reading and quick score learning.
- Excellent listening skills and adaptability to various styles
- Strong communication cooperation and relationship-building skills
