Job Description

Summary/objective

Performs painting / plastering maintenance and repairs to campus facilities. Applies working knowledge of paint and plastering techniques according to application requirements. May be required to work additional hours or on weekends if necessary to meet service requirements. May periodically be required to be on call.

  • Performs routine corrective and painting / plastering projects as assigned/directed by assigned supervisor.
  • Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
  • Estimates time and material costs of various projects.
  • Inspects completed repairs.
  • Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures.
  • Provides requests to supervisor for requisitioning materials and equipment.
  • Applies advanced skills.
  • Performs related duties/work as required and/or assigned.

Physical demands

  • Requires full range of body motion including reaching stooping kneeling climbing and walking. Must be able to lift/carry items weighing up to 50 lbs. Requires standing for extended periods of time. Requires ability to operate motorized equipment requiring manual dexterity. Must have good vision with or without corrective lenses.

  • Must be able to understand/follow basic safety precautions involved in the use of maintenance materials the operation of the hand and power tools and use of personal safety items.

Travel required

  • Travel required is limited to on campus and periodically off campus to obtain materials required to perform your daily duties. Randolph College requires a valid drivers license issued from the state of Virginia to operate a college owned vehicle and as a prerequisite to driving a college owned vehicle the job applicant must pass a driver safety session with the campus security department.

Required education and experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • At least 3 years experience in the painting / plastering field.
  • Knowledge of materials used in painting including finishes stains plasters adhesives and related hardware.
  • Knowledge of paint and plastering techniques according to application requirements.
  • Read speak write English and have good verbal skills.
  • Be able to work well with others and function as a mentor for student workers.
  • Must be able to use Microsoft outlook & other Microsoft products.

Preferred education and experience

  • 5 years experience in the painting/plastering field
  • Painting experience in a higher education /college setting
  • Experience with sharing an on-call roster.
