Position Description
Location:Washington D.C.
Work Schedule:Full-time Hybrid preferred; remote eligible
Starting Salary Range: $132368 - $167538.16 a year with the starting salary determined based on candidates knowledge skills experience and education in addition to budget availability.
Clearance:Ability to obtain a Public Trust clearance
Core Working Hours:1000-1500 EST
The USAID Office of the General Counsel (OGC) serves as the Agencys Chief Legal Office providing advice on legislative administrative and program matters. OGC represents USAID in legal matters including administrative and litigation matters.
Scope of Work
The Litigation Attorney-Mid supports the OGC in providing legal advice to the Agency in administrative and litigation matters. This role involves analyzing complex legal issues assisting with litigation preparation and drafting pleadings motions and briefs for federal courts administrative tribunals and other adjudicative bodies in compliance with applicable laws regulations and Agency policies.
Responsibilities
- Provides support and assistance to attorneys representing USAID in federal and administrative litigation arising under the Contract Disputes Act the Administrative Procedure Act the False Claims Act the Freedom of Information Act and the Federal Tort Claims Act among others.
- Draft pleadings motions and briefs.
- Review case materials investigate facts and gather relevant documents.
- Provide legal counsel on litigation preparation risk assessment and potential courses of action.
- Coordinate with paralegals and other attorneys to prepare case documents and research.
- Verify legal citations and references ensuring accuracy and compliance with procedural requirements.
- Communicate effectively with internal and external stakeholders including interagency partners.
- Perform other legal duties as assigned to support litigation and Agency objectives.
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school and admitted to a state bar in good standing; possesses four (4) to eight (8) years of relevant post-bar legal experience.
