Position Summary

Why Its a Great Opportunity:

As a Planner 2 you will play a key part in supporting the Planner 3 to manage complex grant deliverables and contracts for state grants and local funds. You will ensure compliance with grant terms and conditions while helping to strengthen cross-jurisdictional communication. You will also assist with Pierce County Flood Control Zone District efforts by contributing to financial reporting project tracking and data visualization. Your responsibilities include processing invoices for reimbursement maintaining accurate financial records and managing data through worksheets and tracking metrics to support collaborative work. You will draft letters track deliverables and coordinate logistics for grant management all within the SWM planning framework. Your fiscal work will be reviewed and approved by the Planner 3 and Planner 4giving you the opportunity to learn and grow while making a meaningful impact on floodplain management.

You bring strong collaboration and communication skills working effectively as a team player while managing complex tasks with precision and attention to detail. Your ability to create clear visually compelling materials such as graphics and PowerPoint presentations will help convey key information to diverse audiences. You leverage data visualization tools including GIS to transform data into actionable insights and apply advanced computer skills to streamline processes and maintain accuracy. These competencies combined with adaptability and problem-solving ensure successful outcomes and foster a positive productive team environment.

Your Future in this Role:

You will have direct engagement in the local and regional project implementation of the Pierce County Flood Control Zone District the Puyallup Watershed Floodplains for the Future program and Surface Water Management capital projects. Both the District and the FFTF are cross-sector and inter-organizational partnerships hosted and supported by Pierce County to recover floodplain functions and to protect the health and safety of communities around them. Core Daily Responsibilities:

  • Perform research prepare special studies write reports collect and analyze various statistical and/or technical data.
  • Provide assistance prepare reports and may present information to County Officials departments external entities and the general public regarding a wide range of planning functions and other related areas.
  • May develop and prepare planning documents including drafting code amendments regulations and policies and procedures.
  • May work with others across departments and organizations on the development of various plans.
  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships with County officials employees and the general public.

Qualifications

  • Any equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Bachelors degree in planning or related field
  • Two years of related planning work

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience in local county or state planning is desired
  • Experience with surface water organizations
  • Experience in floodplain reconnection and/or restoration
  • Experience using digital technology to create interactive data visualization
