Who Were Looking For
The City of Beverly Hills Police Department is seeking highly motivated and qualified candidates for the position of Crime and Intelligence Analyst. The ideal candidate will be proficient in performing professional crime and intelligence related studies. The incumbent should have experience in producing preparing and presenting various types of reports to assist officers and administrative staff in planning the deployment of resources for the prevention intervention and suppression of criminal activities. The ideal candidate must have strong knowledge of the principles practices and procedures used in crime analysis and have great attention to detail. They will also be self sufficient and well organized. The ideal candidate should be able to work independently with minimum direction but is also a team player. He or she will be resourceful and communicate effectively.

Distinguishing Characteristics
This is the journey-level specialized professional Analyst class assigned to the Police Department. Incumbents are expected to independently perform responsible and professional level crime analysis and research exercise independent judgement in selecting study approach analysis techniques and making recommendations based on study results. Positions in specialized Analyst classes perform substantive and complex work in one or more functional areas that typically require specialized knowledge of the assigned departments operations and a particular industry and/or field of study. Positions in specialized Analyst classes are responsible for exercising judgment influence and expertise to make decisions and recommendations as they relate to the departments operations in areas which may include but are not limited to: providing support in functional areas of operations and/or administration; program/operational analysis; project/program management; cost control legislative analysis contract administration budget space management/fixed asset control etc. The Criminal Intelligence Analyst is distinguished from other specialized Analyst classes by its allocation to the Police Department serving as a professional-level resource for a variety of crime and intelligence-related analyses and studies.

Selection Process
  • Candidates must meet the minimum qualifications as outlined in the job bulletin at the time of submission unless specified otherwise.

The selection process may include any combination of the following:

  • Review of Minimum Qualifications
    • All educational documents trainings courses and/or certificates required as part of the minimum qualifications must be attached to your application. The following is a list of all documents requested at time of application and must be submitted prior to the oral interview:
      • Bachelors Degree Diploma or Transcripts from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Criminology Criminal Justice Criminal Justice Administration Social/Behavioral Science or a related field.
      • California Drivers License
  • Supplemental Questionnaire
    • Respond in full to all supplemental questions. Responses such as see resume will not be accepted and will result in the disqualification of your application.
    • The supplemental questionnaire may be used as an assessment tool to determine the most qualified applicants for this position.
  • Oral Interview with Writing Project
    • On the day of the interview candidates will be required to respond to a written prompt that will be assessed by the interview panel.
    • Tentatively scheduled during the week of February 9th 2026
  • Background Check
    • The final step of the selection process requires a thorough police background investigation. The background investigation will include a comprehensive investigation of the candidates background which includes Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) background check education and employment history (including a credit criminal and DMV review) personal statement employment and personal reference check.

Eligibility List

The candidates who successfully pass the selection process will earn placement on an Eligibility List. The Eligibility List may be used for current and future vacancies in the job classification as defined by the duration of the list at the time the list is established. The Eligibility List established for any recruitment may also be used to fill a lower-level position.

Proof of Education

As a finalist for a job you will be contacted to schedule a fingerprinting appointment and your fingerprints will be sent to the California Department of Justice(DOJ) and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). The resulting report of your conviction history (if any) will be used to determine whether the nature of your conviction (or arrest in limited circumstances) conflicts with the specific duties and responsibilities of the job for which you are a finalist. Disaster Service Workers

All City of Beverly Hills employees are designated Disaster Service Workers through state and local law (California Government Code Section 3100-3109). Major Duties

EXAMPLES OF ESSENTIAL DUTIES - Duties may include but are not limited to the following:

  1. Prepare predictive and descriptive reports of crime patterns individuals associations flow operations and threats based on all available information.
  2. Identify crime patterns and trends and assists in creating directed patrol or tactical action plans for effective sworn response.
  3. Support Field Operations and Investigations in real-time and immediate response to critical and high priority incidents.
  4. Interact and communicate with police personnel on crime analysis/research issues; and respond to requests for various information reports.
  5. Assist in the development and implementation of new programs procedures methods and systems.
  6. Apply conventional and computer-based modeling logic and hypothesis testing algorithms and statistical analyses.
  7. Use federal state and local crime and intelligence databases to access and query data and information generate reports and validate or update information.
  8. Collect analyze and interpret data and statistics using a variety of methodologies including but not limited to quantitative and qualitative.
  9. Plan collect and analyze open source information from the internet while staying attentive to new social media sources and trends.
  10. Research collect and analyze data and information from a wide variety of resources such as crime reports investigative reports property records financial records DMV personal records and data sources web sites published information and other resources to develop patterns links and profiles.
  11. Communicate clearly and concisely in oral written and visual forms.
  12. Prepare a variety of written materials including charts graphs maps reports bulletins and other informational materials for dissemination of information to assist in criminal investigations make intelligence estimates or for training purposes.
  13. Coordinate with supervisors detectives investigators and staff from other agencies and others to identify requirements for intelligence/crime analysis products; maintain liaison with other jurisdictions and agencies.
  14. Testify in court on work product findings and methodologies.
  15. Provide information to police leadership for decision-making purposes; present analysis and statistics in various internal and external forums; and participate and provide information to police personnel.
  16. Provide oral and written briefings to support the interpretation of crime and police activity information analysis in support of community relations and engagement strategies.
  17. Use geographical information systems to analyze and present information.
  18. Provide training to police personnel and other agencies and individuals on the use of various technology products to assist in the prevention intervention and suppression of criminal activities.
  19. Assist new or existing staff in learning departmental practices and protocols methods and procedures.
  20. Build and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers other City employeesand the public using principles of good customer service.
  21. Foster an environment that embraces diversity integrity trust and respect.
  22. Act as an integral team player which involves flexibility cooperation and communication.
  23. Performs related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

Experience and Education

Any combination of experience and training that would provide the required knowledge and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required knowledge and abilities would be:

Experience: 3 years of work experience as a Crime/Intelligence Analyst or similar position performing criminal intelligence analysis work in or in direct support a governmental law enforcement agency.

Education: Equivalent to a Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Criminology Criminal Justice Criminal Justice Administration Social/Behavioral Science or a related field.

License and Certificate Possession of or ability to obtain a valid California drivers license as required by the position.

Knowledge Skills & Abilities

Knowledge of:

Principles practices methodologies and techniques of crime and intelligence analysis.

Data collection methods and analysis.

Crime-related terminology and principles of criminology.

Law enforcement databases and geographical systems.

Qualitative and quantitative analysis techniques used to predict and forecast future criminal activity and produce valuable and actionable intelligence.

Effective methods of presenting statistical information to a variety of users.

Federal state and local laws related to privacy and civil liberty statutes associated with criminal justice operating systems as well as applicable laws codes and regulations pertaining to data collection and retention.

Law enforcement functions and processes.

Functions authorities and responsibilities of the various criminal justice agencies.

Open Source Intelligence (OSINT) sources.

Analysis techniques commonly applied to criminal organizations such as link toll and spatial analysis of criminal intelligence information.

Application of various software applications for crime and intelligence analysis including but not limited to spreadsheets logic/hypothesis testing ArcGIS or similar spatial analysis technology charting graphing etc.

English grammar spelling punctuation and effective writing techniques.

Ability to:

Assist patrol investigative and administrative staff in planning the deployment of resources for the prevention intervention and suppression of criminal activities through the performance of crime and intelligence analysis work.

On a continuous basis know and understand all aspects of the job; identify and interpret technical and numerical information;analyze data reports and special studies;observe and problem solve operational and technical policy and procedures.

Find compile analyze and validate credibility of information and data.

Apply logic and sound judgement in assessing and predicting characteristics of criminal groups or operations using data obtained from various sources.

Assist in the development of tactical and strategic responses to criminal activity.

Prepare and maintain a variety of data records reports bulletins and correspondence.

Interpret the significance of various types of criminal analyses.

Collaborate with crime and intelligence analysis peers in surrounding jurisdictions to identify cross-jurisdictional priorities and patterns.

Prepare and present a variety of concise reports for oral and written presentations.

Use sound judgement in recognizing scope of authority; make independent judgments and function with a minimum of supervision.

Use discretion in distributing and disclosing sensitive information.

Operate and use standard office equipment including computers and applicable software applications e.g. mapping graphing charting databases spreadsheets etc.

Maintain regular attendance and adhere to prescribed work schedule to conduct job responsibilities.

Utilize appropriate safety procedures and practices for assigned duties.

Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.

Work with various cultural and ethnic groups in a tactful and effective manner.
