This posting is for multiple non-permanent seasonal hourly positionsranging from 17 to 22 weeks. Positions have start dates ranging from April to May 2026.

Join Planning and Development Services for the 2026 summer season!Weed Inspectors are responsible for inspecting public and private properties for noxious and prohibited noxious weeds as listed in the Alberta Weed Control Act and addition the Weed Inspector is required to enter weed inspection information into a department specific software program map weed infestations and write reports.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Inspect public and private properties as per the Alberta Weed Control Act and Regulations

  • Educate residents about ecological and economic impact of weed infestations invasive species and how to identify problem weeds on their property

  • Direct landowners on their responsibilities under the Weed Control Act and outcomes for non-compliance

  • Enforce the Alberta Weed Control Act which involves issuing notices tracking due dates working with GIS software and initiatingenforcement on non-compliant properties

  • Communicate with various stakeholders such as residents industry and commercial businesses in a professional manner

  • Work with confidential and sensitive informationwhile balancing complex issues posed by stakeholder disputes

Qualifications & Skills:

  • High School Diploma with two years related experience

  • Post-secondary education with an emphasis on applicable agricultural environmental or biological science courses such as botany plant science ecology is preferred

  • Courses and experience with weed identification and the Weed Control Act are strong assets

  • Previous municipal experience is an asset

  • Current Standard First Aid certification is an asset

  • Pesticide Applicators Certificate would be an asset

  • Knowledge of the Alberta Weed Control Act

  • Strong plant identification skills

  • Effective customer service public relations and communication skills (verbal and written) to work with diverse groups of individuals and the ability to deal with residents in challenging situations

  • Experience working with the public in various situations including one on one communications public speaking and educating

  • An understanding of agricultural practices

  • General computer proficiency and the ability to learn department specific software

  • Able to work independently with minimal supervision as most work occurs on private property in remote rural areas

Conditions of Employment:

  • Submission of Satisfactory Criminal Record Check

  • Valid Alberta Class 5 Drivers licence and submission of a 5-year Drivers Abstract with less than 7 demerits

  • Ability to perform physical labour as part of the job duties and stand/walk for extended periods of time
