Minimum Qualifications
- Juris Doctorate from an accredited law school and admission to the Louisiana Bar (or eligibility for admission);
- 3-5 years of litigation experience;
- Extensive experience handling state and/or federal habeas corpus proceedings;
- Exceptional oral advocacy and legal writing skills;
- Ability to manage complex cases and large volumes of records efficiently;
- Strong interpersonal skills for working with prosecutors law enforcement and court personnel;
- Prior clerkship preferred (state or federal).
Job Duties and Other Information
The position of AAG/Assistant Solicitor General may consist of but is not limited to the following duties:
- Serve as lead counsel for the State in all assigned state and federal habeas corpus proceedings;
- Draft and file answers motions to dismiss briefs and other pleadings in state and federal courts;
- Analyze trial records appellate decisions and post-conviction filings to assess claims and develop litigation strategy;
- Ensure compliance with all procedural requirements;
- Represent the State in evidentiary hearings oral arguments and status conferences in state and federal courts;
- Coordinate with trial prosecutors appellate attorneys law enforcement agencies and court personnel as needed;
- Track and manage deadlines and case status for multiple complex matters;
- Provide legal advice and recommendations to division leadership on habeas-related issues and emerging legal trends;
- Any additional duties as assigned by supervisors.
