Job Summary

Senior VET Trainer Diploma of Counselling

  • Location: Hawthorn East / other locations as required
  • Employment: Ongoing

We are seeking a Senior VET Trainer (Diploma of Counselling) to coordinate develop and deliver high-quality training and assessment within Cairnmillars VET and Short Course Centre. This is a hands-on teaching role focused on training excellence student experience and strong learning outcomes while supporting quality and compliance requirements relevant to VET delivery (including ASQA standards and course accreditation obligations).

The Cairnmillar Institute is a not-for-profit registered health promotion charity that has been providing high quality professional education and accessible psychological services to promote the psychological well-being of the community for nearly 60 years.

Cairnmillar is now one of the largest trainers of postgraduate psychologists and counsellors in Australia. We offer an excellent range of clinic services; postgraduate programs in psychology and counselling; and short courses and professional development for the broader community.

The role:

  • Deliver engaging effective training in applied counselling skills
  • Design develop and maintain high-quality learning and course materials
  • Apply diverse facilitation methods to optimise student learning and participation
  • Utilise teaching platforms effectively (including online delivery where required) to enhance the learning experience
  • Provide expert instruction informed by professional qualifications and contemporary practice in counselling and/or psychology
  • Support coordination of delivery activities (planning scheduling and stakeholder engagement as required)
  • Build and maintain effective working relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners
  • Communicate clearly and professionally through written and verbal channels
  • Support quality and compliance requirements relevant to VET delivery including ASQA standards and course accreditation obligations
  • Contribute to continuous improvement activities to strengthen learner experience and training quality

Knowledge & Skills

  • Expertise in counselling or psychology
  • Highly developed skills in training delivery and development of learning materials
  • Confident use of online teaching platforms and learning technologies
  • Strong interpersonal communication and stakeholder engagement skills
  • High level writing and analytical skills
  • Highly organised and able to work independently and as part of a team
  • A student-centred approach that reflects Cairnmillars values

Qualifications

Essential

Postgraduate degree in psychology counselling or psychotherapy

Graduate Certificate in Higher Education and/or Certificate IV in Training and Assessment (or equivalent)

Desirable

Current registration/membership as a Psychologist Counsellor or Psychotherapist
