Job Description:

As a habilitation aide you are part of a multidisciplinary therapeutic services team of staff that is responsible for meeting the needs of each individual patient in order to assist them in returning to a satisfying hopeful and contributing life in his or her chosen community. As a paraprofessional staff your services are directed by professional staff and guided by a clearly defined treatment plan. Using therapeutic use of self you engage patients in recommended treatment activities and positive interactions by creating a genuine professional supportive relationship. Your responsibilities include patient escort to treatment areas individual and group provision of treatment on and off grounds as directed by professional therapeutic services staff patient monitoring for safety and observation of progress toward goals and target symptoms as well as documentation of the patients current condition. Treatment programs and activities may focus on rehabilitative (vocational) educational or recreational goals and leisure opportunities. You are expected to demonstrate adaptability creativity enthusiasm and compassion as you teach skills and provide patients with various opportunities for connecting with others and their community. Work is performed under general supervision of a recreation therapist.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Two (2) years of education training or experience working as a Mental Health Worker I or providing direct care to mentally or physically disabled individuals or other directly related habilitative or educational work

As a member of a statewide community of care givers DDPC collaborates with individuals with severe and persistent mental illness their community and personal supports to provide recovery-oriented respectful compassionate and effective psychiatric care and treatment in the least restrictive safest and most therapeutic environment we can create.

TheDepartment of Health and Human Services (DHHS)is dedicated to promoting health safety resilience and opportunity for Maine people. The Department provides health and social services to approximately a third of the States population including children families older Mainers and individuals with disabilities mental illness and substance use disorders.
