SUMMARY OF ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Providence Living is a non-profit Catholic-sponsored health care organization focused on long-term care assisted living housing and other community services to support seniors and their family members. We are committed to re-imagining the experience of seniors especially those living with dementia and to creating communities and fostering a culture where seniors are empowered to make decisions that affect their quality of life.
Reporting to the Executive Director Operations the Communications Specialist supports Providence Livings day-to-day activities and initiatives by developing messaging for a variety of audiences; designing materials and content; and writing editing and proofing communications. Works to implement communications that are clear concise and consistent and that advance organizational priorities raise awareness and increase engagement. Collaborates with partner organizations on joint initiatives to ensure consistent messaging that appropriately reflects Providence Livings mission and values.
All staff have a part to play in preventing adverse events and in promoting safety for resident and staff by being aware of and adhering to all policies and procedures including promptly reporting any risks or safety concerns relating to resident or staff safety.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides Providence Living leaders with communications support to manage and deliver key messaging across the organization by functioning as a resource sharing knowledge and developing easy-to-use materials.
- Supports Providence Living projects and strategies by coordinating implementing and evaluating various communications initiatives and content that advance organizational priorities raise awareness and increase engagement.
- Works with senior leadership team and representatives from partner organizations such as Providence Health Care St. Pauls Foundation Comox Valley Healthcare Foundation and various Health Authorities to write produce and deliver clear communications with consistent messaging that appropriately reflects Providence Livings mission and values.
- Writes edits and produces a diverse range of communications materials such as web content internal briefs reports memos newsletters brochures displays presentations news releases and announcements for a range of audiences. Works with staff to ensure content quality and standards are maintained in their communications including editing and re-writing content as needed.
- Supports internal communications by providing content for the intranet and monthly newsletters researching and writing employee profiles tracking internal engagement for important initiatives and making recommendations for adjustments in messaging or execution.
- Provides support for the planning and execution of internal events (like all-staff town halls employee recognition events and program or site-specific events) and external/community events (including recruitment fairs public open houses and community partnership meetings/events). Assists with logistics for in-person and virtual events contributing to storytelling around events making photos and videos and developing content.
- Acts of the first point of contact for internal and external communication accounts such as the intranet and information email accounts. Responds to day-to-day information requests from partners; consults with subject matter experts and prepares/facilitates appropriate responses to requests.
- Liaises with suppliers such as designers videographers photographers and printers as required.
- Performs other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education Training and Experience
Bachelors degree in related area such as communications marketing public relations or journalism plus three (3) years recent related experience or an equivalent combination of education training and experience.
Skills and Abilities
- Knowledge of communication concepts strategies and practice.
- Solid understanding of communications trends issues and technologies.
- Demonstrated ability to translate technical or complex information and create messaging for diverse audiences.
- Demonstrated research writing editing and proof-reading skills including ability to write at a professional standard with attention to style tone and detail.
- Excellent personal communication skills including the ability to work in an empathetic respectful and cooperative manner with people from all walks of life.
- Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain relationships with internal and external partners.
- Demonstrated ability to plan organize prioritize and problem-solve.
- Demonstrated ability to work independently in a fast-paced multi-tasking environment and to prioritize tasks and respond to requests in a timely manner.
- Demonstrated computer skills in a variety of software applications and web-based technologies related to communications.
- Physical ability to perform the duties of the position.
