Summary:
The Cardiac Monitor Technician is responsible for continuously monitoring cardiac rhythms of patients identifying and reporting arrhythmias and supporting clinical staff in maintaining patient safety and care. This role ensures timely recognition and communication of changes in cardiac rhythm to the healthcare team.
Responsibilities:
Monitor Cardiac Rhythms: Continuously observes and analyzes cardiac rhythms on telemetry monitors for assigned patients. Identifies and records patientï½s rhythm every 8 hours.
ï½ Identify Abnormalities: Recognize arrhythmias heart blocks and other cardiac irregularities promptly reporting significant changes to the nursing staff.
ï½ Document Rhythm Strips: Accurate documentation of rhythm interpretations noting changes maintaining patient records and notifying nursing staff of the changes. Documenting forms for the patientsï½ record cardiac tracings and measurements.
ï½ Communication: Communicates to nursing staff as necessary in regards to proper lead placement battery changes verifying of cardiac rhythms and need for escalation of care. Ability to call code/RRT when a life threatening dysrhythmia is identified.
ï½ Equipment Maintenance: Troubleshoot telemetry equipment issues and escalate as necessary to biomedical support.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Fulfills all compliance responsibilities related to the position.
Other Information:
Education Skills Experience
ï½ Successful completion of the t2-day EKG interpretation class.
ï½Must obtain a passing score of 80% or higher on the EKG interpretation exam within 90 days of higher
Preferred Qualifications
ï½ Previous experience in a hospital setting or Cardiac Monitoring
ï½ Experience with interpretation of cardiac rhythms
ï½ Education of the Philips monitoring system
