Job Summary:The Geological Sciences Researcher II oversees geological science research projects and assumes responsibility for the day-to-day activity supporting project. Makes significant contributions to the planning and design of research and creative projects. Assists in short- and long-term planning and project goals. May assist with research and creative proposals and dissemination of project findings.

Required Minimum Qualifications:Bachelors degree and four (4) years of geological sciences or closely related research experience; OR masters degree and two (2) years of geological sciences or closely related research experience; OR doctoral degree and some geological sciences or closely related research experience. Post-Baccalaureate degree is highly preferred (Masters degree or higher).

Skills and Knowledge:Knowledge of scientific computing data assimilation and machine learning frameworks. Proficiency in writing clean efficient and well-documented code. Mathematics including linear algebra and partial differential equations. Ability to implement software solutions based on technical specifications provided by researchers. Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate with a multidisciplinary team.

Preferred Qualifications:PhD in Geology Geography Civil Engineering Computer Science Mathematics Physics or a related quantitative field. Expertise in modeling geophysical systems. Strong proficiency in machine learning libraries such as PyTorch. Experience with version control systems (e.g. Git) and collaborative software development.
