COMPENSATION:$17.94 - $28.63 per hour(rate of pay will be determined by position and completed years of post-secondary schooling)

ABOUT THE ROLE

This position is open to all students including those currently enrolled in a co-op program as well as those who are not.

Reporting to the Manager Policy Research and Forecasting is responsible for assisting the Branch with the annual York Region Employment Survey. A significant amount of time will be spent working independently gathering data from businesses in York Region through door-to-door interviews or by telephone or online survey. Data will be collected using a Region-issued tablet and GIS-based software. Candidates will also be required to follow-up with businesses via email or phone and perform quality assurance tasks to ensure continued improvements in accuracy. This position will involve driving to business areas throughout York Region as well as duties in the office or candidates home office location.

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

  • If you are NOTenrolled in a co-opprogram you must be currently enrolled in a full-time program for Winter 2026and must be returning to full-time studies forthe Fall 2026term (documentation such as a VOE will be required)
  • If you are enrolled in a co-op program you will be required to provide documentation confirming your enrollment.
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada as a student (social insurance number required)
  • Able to provide appropriate validation based on requirements of position (i.e. Drivers Abstract G or G2class license - if operating a Regional vehiclePolice Check POET)

WHAT YOULL BE DOING

  • Conducts Employment Survey activities that includes driving to various businesses within York Region and contacting businesses via phone or other communication tools.
  • Inputs employment data to populate survey data gathered.
  • Provides support to staff as required.
  • Performs quality assurance checks for accuracy of data.

WHAT WERE LOOKING FOR

  • Currently enrolled on a full-time basis in a University Degree program in Urban Planning Geography Business Economics or related field.
  • Returning to school full time in the fall term.
  • Strong communication and customer service skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to organize work set priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Self-motivated approach to working in both a team environment and on an independent basis.
  • Detail-oriented approach to accurately collecting and reviewing large datasets.
  • Valid Ontario Class G or G2 drivers license free of any demerit points and reliable vehicle for use on corporate business.
  • Ability to work outside regular business hours as required. Working hours are weekdays from the core business hours of 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Manager may request with notice that hours be adjusted on occasion to accommodate the varying hours of different business sectors.
